Dude, do some research. I'll accept, it's mainly the middle east where people are trafficked from, but it's mainly western Europe and America that they are trafficked to. And there are people trafficked from western Europe, too. That means that both the middle east and the west have trafficking problems. And since human trafficking is modern-day slavery, I think we can agree that slavery is a problem in the west.

Also, if we spent money getting people out of poverty, there would be less crap on the streets for the pigeons to feed on (because there would be less food lying around that homeless people have dropped/not been able to finish) so that would actually help to reduce the pigeon problem. Maybe try thinking about the causes of your problem, and whether or not there actually is a biger issue that you could be dealing with.

Let's just get rid of all animals that aren't humans.

Also, for the record, Tesla was a circus clown that wanted to drop an atomic bomb on New York because of the high density of pigeons.

We can worry about pigeons once we've taken care of the real enemy: Canada geese.

Because unlike pigeons, these airborne shit factories are actively trying to kill you by making airliners crash.

Pigeons are kept as pets in my country,

Many people breed them and usually let them out to fly around the house and they come back into their enclosures. We also eat them they are really delicious it's kind of different from chicken and a bit more sour and you can't stop at one they are too small for only eating one you usually eat like 5-10. I don't really notice their poo though once in a while though you'll find bird droppings on your window but it's find you can just clean it up, easily if I say so myself.

Okay, if there's nothing wrong with hunting down invasive pests...

Let's start with humans.

This person gets it. In terms of how other species deal with the problems one species causes, humans are by far the worst species on the planet for being "invasive pests". We take up several thousand square miles of other creatures' homes and totally destroy them. If pigeons were doing that to our cities, the government would have wiped them out centuries ago. For pity's sake, we can't even live with each other! We continually destroy the lives of countless other humans for our own personal gain - the only species on the planet to do so on such a massive scale. We have a concept of war for crying out loud! If we're going to cull creatures who make human lives unbearable, the obvious starting point would be humans.

Also, referring back to my point about human trafficking, I think this map demonstrates my point that there is a problem the world over:

So to solve the problem of humans causing human misery you would kill all humans?

I like it.
Earth is hurtling at full speed towards total ecosystem collapse and, with it, the end of all life on this planet.

All other issues are utterly irrelevant in the face of this fact.

It says 2009 on the map, so I'm guessing that's about right. But the situation doesn't change that quickly, as people trying to do illegal things usually try to be as subversive as possible, so if there's a way of doing it without getting caught it will still happen.

All I'm saying is if we want to throw the stupid label of "Pests" on something, and that makes it okay to kill said species because of them being "pests", then we should take a god damn look at ourselves and realize that we're the biggest pests of them all.

I brought it up as a better use of public money than getting rid of pigeons. The OP didn't seem to think it was a problem in the western world, so I felt the need to explain just how much of a problem it is. Unless the OP continues in his/her disbelief in the seriousness of the problem, I shall desist from making further comments.

The whole concept I have thought a lot about and it is really stupid in my opinion. Hell, I think the term "Pests" is stupid. We build out farther and farther into the wilderness, and then when something like, say, a coyote, or deer get onto our property and eat our crops/hay/whatever, it is suddenly deemed okay to shoot them because they're pests, when we're the ones being the invasive species first. The whole concept of calling species pests is one of the most hypocritical things I have ever heard.

I actually think it is a really interesting idea for a thread, there have been quite a few high profile cases in the UK lately. It is also something I can't recall a thread on.

The pigeons kept coming to our window instead of the one of the apartment below, where this old lady fed them... there were around 20 pigeons last year, if not more. Grandpa yelled a lot, either at the pigeons or the packs of dogs that kept attacking each other (and the pigeons) during the night. Then there were cats and more dogs and more birds and there were always at least 20 kids outside playing (Except if there were Roma people around. The kids would run away from them for some idiotic reason.)
I visit the area... the pigeons are now all gone/dead, and the dogs are being chased away, and they're dumping mountains of dirt into what was my 'backyard'. As for the kids... they're the same, but with infinity-percent more swear words.

So yeah, I guess that, by looking outside my window when I was in primary school, I kind of stopped seeing why what we look like matters, and why people think it makes others inferior. I just don't see it. We've done more harm to them then they have done to us. I find people that say humans are superior/great to be very hypocritical.

And then there are other "pest" species that only exist because of human intervention. Here in the UK, we have issues with American grey squirrels driving down the population of our native reds. And that's not the only human-introduced pest - rabbits are well known for burrowing/chewing through important infrastructure like underground power cables. Rabbits are only in Britain because the Romans brought them over to eat, and now they're here and messing up our infrastructure and breeding like... Well, like rabbits.

As a Christian, I believe God put us on Earth with the specific task of being custodeans, of keeping the planet the way He intended it. A job we're shockingly bad at. There have been so many extinctions over the past few centuries that some biologists are calling this the Anthropocene Mass Extinction (Anthropocene meaning era of man), and that actually human activity will have wiped out so many beautiful species by the time we actually realise what we're doing and are capable of putting an end to it. I already really regret never having the opportunity to see a real live dodo.
