Also, we're cutting the military budget oh boy. What a disaster. Tell that to the cops, the firefighters, the teachers, and all the over various government workers. I'm sure they'll be sympathetic- after all, they never have to make do with insufficient and obsolete equipment. (That was a joke. The fact that we'd cut everything else before our military spending really says something about our national priorities.)

Defending what you have is quite important. No point in having it if somebody else can just walk in and take it. But as I said earlier the amount spent per soldier is 1.5 to 2 times more than other well equipped western militaries. So there is room for a reduction in spending without much of a reduction in capabilities.
