Looks like wattpad love stories do teach me new words. Faggot should really be restrained from being used as an insult, it has a stigma to the LGB community especially to the terrible history behind it. It shouldn't be used anywhere in a civilized manner except when it means other things like food.

Definitely.

Although Faggotry (the verb) is also used in knitting, metalworking, and to call a Basoon :p

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faggot_(disambiguation)

Although these are UK English connotations it seems, the U.S. connotation has been, since the word was introduced into American English it seems, expressly to refer to homosexuals.

These terms are much like the N word, here in the US. If you are a part of the group the word is used against, it is perfectly acceptable to say. If you are not, I'd advise extreme caution.

Though using the faggot word in the form of the insult or as a term to address people for me is not advised anywhere. There's still the stigma. It's the same as the Swastika and its relations with the Hebrew people.

What I'm saying is gay people refer to each other as faggot all the time. For straight people, it's a big no-no. Not sure that I'd go so far as to compare it to the swastika, but I see what you're getting at.

Yea, the homosexuals I have met find faggot an insult.

However, there may be circles where faggot is acceptable to say to a homosexual. However, I haven't encountered one, but there's all kinds of people in this world so I wouldn't dismiss it so quick.

It's okay if a person may find it acceptable but to use such a term to address someone who understands the stigma? I would be glaring at that person before i grab my fist and hit him of course (friendly way if it was used by friendly people while violent way to antagonistic characters).
Me too, neither have i encountered one but if there were existing then i guess i will dismiss this world as just diverse like that.

You clearly didn't read what I wrote. Regardless, whether some people find it offensive does not negate the fact that some homosexuals use the term, usually in a joking manner, with other homosexuals, which is all I was trying to convey. In African American comminities, the N word is used constantly, yes a term that is so full of historical stigma. Shrug. Do some African Americans find it offensive? Yes they do. Does that change the fact that the term is used by individuals within their own communities? No it does not.

I sometimes use it as an insult toward some of my friends (who are gay) and they do the same. I would probably use it like this:

Me: *opens fridge and looks around. Dramatically closes fridge* "Who the hell took the last beer!?"
Girl Friend: *reading magazine with hot guy on cover. Answers without taking eyes off of article she's reading* "Michael"
*Michael walks in*
Me: *in an angry tone* "Damn it Michael, you're such a gay b*tch" *walks away*
Michael: "What the f*ck did I do?"

But I would use it as an insult only with my group of close friends, never outside that group. That's our group thing that we do.

I totally think it depends on the people around you :p

It's because it's not used in a derogatory way, if two people of the same group call each other something that's normally derogatory. It doesn't have the same pretense.

The tone of voice and context is important.

It's not the same to say "Hey nigga' " to your brother than "You God damned Nigger!" to someone who has done something to make you upset.

None of that matters. What only matters is the people around you. I use gay as an insult (instead of whatever other word I could use and often in a very angry tone), but only with my group of close friends. We also compliment each other like this.

Michael: *walks to table we're at (we being other friends and I)* "OMG guys! I just asked +insert hot guy name+ out and he said yes! "
Me: *full of joy* "No way! You go girl!" *hugs and kisses cheek*

I think calling someone (some other person) the sex/gender they're not would be offensive, but that's not the case with my friends.

Once again, it only depends on the people around you.

See, I would not say it's offensive if you don't find it offensive. Although I've seen so much shit in the net and IRL it hardly surprises me anymore.

It likely did slipped in somewhere who did link 'gay' with homosexuality. IDK when the word 'gay' did moved from the originally term to the term we all know it now, but if I must be honest, gay sounds a lot better.

So we can better communicate and exchange ideas regarding it. Its pretty fucking hard to talk about something you don't have a word for.

You know that thing where two people are walking towards each other, and they try to move out of each other's way, but they keep moving back in each other's paths? Yeah, let's not turn sexuality into that.

There is a difference.

Faggot did, indeed, have other meanings before it became a derogatory word for male homosexuals. It has been a derogatory term for about 100 years, probably longer. And you're wrong about the sequence of "gay" meaning "bad or stupid." That meaning is the more recent.

And the "bad/stupid" meaning is directly derived from the homosexual meaning.
