I sometimes use it as an insult toward some of my friends (who are gay) and they do the same. I would probably use it like this:

Me: *opens fridge and looks around. Dramatically closes fridge* "Who the hell took the last beer!?"
Girl Friend: *reading magazine with hot guy on cover. Answers without taking eyes off of article she's reading* "Michael"
*Michael walks in*
Me: *in an angry tone* "Damn it Michael, you're such a gay b*tch" *walks away*
Michael: "What the f*ck did I do?"

But I would use it as an insult only with my group of close friends, never outside that group. That's our group thing that we do.

I totally think it depends on the people around you :p

That's like something straight out of a comedy.

There was a time when homophobia was rampant.
Gay was a synonym for bad or stupid.

Since then, we've become more progressive, but language doesn't revert.
When I call someone a faggot, I'm not calling them homosexual. I'm calling them a faggot.

If a gay person gets offended at the word faggot, it's their fault for giving that word power over them.
Nobody in my group of friends says faggot when talking about gay people.
They say faggot when one of us teamkills or cornerblocks someone in a videogame.

The English language just works like that sometimes.

That's like saying that it's okay to say the n-word because it's black people's fault for getting offended by it. Newsflash: It's not. The word is offensive.

Because even if we did a whole "unisex you like who you like" thing, it wouldn't take out the who sexual preference. Lesbians would still like girls and straight chicks might be offended if they were hit on by another woman. It just is more like a: these are people who will accept you and could possibly lead to a romantic/sexual interest. Rather than a roulette table of hoping that guy you spotted across the room is gay too and won't spit in your face for hitting on him.

Unless you are talking about the country of Niger, which is where the word originated. It was modified into a slur by adding the intonation we now know.

Niger, the country, is a perfectly acceptable use. Nigger, the insult, isn't and it should be used with EXTREME reservation if you have the urge to use it as it has come to mean an high-class insult at this point (at least in certain parts of America). Nigga' on the other hand has lost much of its negative connotations because of rap and whatnot, and in some circles it's even okay to say it, which I found odd, given the nature of the word.

Faggot did, indeed, have other meanings before it became a derogatory word for male homosexuals. It has been a derogatory term for about 100 years, probably longer. And you're wrong about the sequence of "gay" meaning "bad or stupid." That meaning is the more recent.

Usually it meant "happy" or "jolly". If read within present context the title "The Gay Science" by Nietzsche would be EXTREMELY misleading...

Without having to leave this site it meant the wood that was used to burn homosexuals at the stake if i am correct. It's quite a harsh word, considering people sometimes use it as an insult to homosexuals without knowing the terrible history behind it.

Looks like wattpad love stories do teach me new words. Faggot should really be restrained from being used as an insult, it has a stigma to the LGB community especially to the terrible history behind it. It shouldn't be used anywhere in a civilized manner except when it means other things like food.

And in other countries it means something else. America is not the end-all, be-all of word definitions.

These terms are much like the N word, here in the US. If you are a part of the group the word is used against, it is perfectly acceptable to say. If you are not, I'd advise extreme caution.
