for a minute I thought David Cameron was arrested for legalizeing ssm
"Nowadays everybody's got to go to shrinks and counselors, and go on Sally Jesse Raphael and talk about their problems. Whatever happened to Gary Cooper, the strong, silent type? That was an American. He wasn't in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do. See, what they didn't know is once they got Gary Cooper in touch with his feelings, that they wouldn't be able to shut him up. And then it's dysfunction this and dysfunction that and dysfunction vaffanculo!"

So the Alabama conservative base is getting so pissed off that they lost the legal battle on Same-Sex Marriage that they are now arresting members of the Clergy? All I can say is have fun with that since her arrest won't do a thing to stop the fact the state has to abide by SCOTUS's desion on the matter. I assume her case will be thrown out if one ever formulates or if they just did this to disrupt a gay marriage and hopefully she sues the city for this bullshit.

People being dumb to nice people again. Lets hope this doesn't become some kind of tactic. Arresting people helping those gain their rights is just criminal.

According to the article, the said person was arrested for refusing to leave premises when requested, thus breaking the law. Don't see the problem here.

Why was she asked to leave?

Why was she not allowed to perform the ceremony there, where ceremonies have traditionally been performed?

That's because you don't understand the American government.

It sucks none of the articles I read about this mention just how many people the local officials are pushing their agenda on.

I think that 51 out of the 67 counties are following the Alabaman supreme court justice instead of SCOTUS. I read that in a news article today, actually, I'll try to find it.

edit: there's actually a map of the counties in the link provided by Benuty.

I just wanted to point out how sad it is that Alabama is stuck in pre-civil rights america. Refusing to uphold the law or follow orders, in order to keep a minority a second class?

Really says something about the people there.

She was asked to leave because she was being disruptive, exactly as charged. If they don't perform marriages any more, and won't give you a room for the ceremony, that's that. You leave and do it somewhere else, as the couple were intending in the first place. Now perhaps the reason that they don't perform marriages any more is that they're a bunch of homophobic bastards, but we don't know and it's not really a big deal.

Genivaria wrote:That's because you don't understand the American government.

Of course they did. Just because it's a government facility doesn't mean they HAVE to let you get married there. They're not going to let you get married in a nuclear silo either. If they don't allow marriages in that area, that's that.

Still, I don't see how they can be challenged legally unless it can be proven that it was done explicitly for the purpose of disrupting a legal marriage.

Honestly, my point still stands. The state government is denying freedoms to the people. One government denying the freedoms of the people is just as bad as the bigger government. It's hypocritical of them.

I'm not sure, either. One day I hope that southerners will ask themselves why history keeps repeating itself down there, and why other regions of the country have to keep dragging it out of the past. Repeatedly.
