I personally am offended. They have no options for cis dragon's or trans-F-16's. Both of which I'd like to be. Perhaps they can add an *other* tag in which we can personally decide what we want to be. I mean, it's anyone's line nowadays. Right? We can all be whatever we feel like thanks to the magic of Disney.

Now to be honest, I feel as though FB went overboard here. They caved to social conformity and while I get that they are a massive social-networking site, was there really a need to do this? There was male, Female, or Other. I only see people in First World Countries only getting butt-hurt over this whole "gender" issue and it doesn't need to be. We get it, you aren't in the *norm*, then select other and get over it. You wish to be identified by a non-gender associated pronoun, fine, select Other, you wish to identify with female pronouns, then select "female", and if you wish to identify as male, select the "male" option.

In other words, there was no reason for them to do this, they just want kudos for appearing to care about non-conformative minorities and their supporters.

that's pretty cool. my only gripe is that the custom gender is not truly custom, and only lets you input one of the options available to choose. they could have not bothered with compiling the list and just let you fill in the blank with whatever you choose really.

Yes. Gender is a social construct people may or may not identify as.

To put it simply, sex doesn't influence gender, but gender influences sex. A person who identifies as a gender will conform their appearance to the expectations for that gender. It's not comparable to identifying as a species or random household objects.

For the most part, a gender is a box with its appearance, gender pronouns, and social expectations.
