Then all that is left now is to address is the binary option of being interested in women, men, or both.

The thing with the custom fields is it that while it can always be used in an offensive manner, it's not like someone is going to be an English gentleman in their updates and then write Shit Von Poopwiggle in a custom field.

The option list is probably just to make data gathering more efficient. Or maybe I just need to grab my tinfoil hat and drink some unflouridated tea.

A lot of these are just different names for the same thing.

That's the point.

I really don't know which of the options to pick... IMO, ignoring the differences between gender and biological sex for the time being, gender is a scale, ranging from exclusively one gender at 0% (I'm going to use female for this example) to exclusively the other at 100% (male for this example). Obviously there are a variety of different words for each point on the scale depending on circumstances (eg 0% could be cis female, trans female, cis woman etc), but I'm not sure there's a word for where I fit in (using the current example, I'm around 85%, which pretty much fits my biological status as a man, but I'm not exclusively male so I don't feel 100% comfortable identifying as cis) so which word do I choose? Or do I just leave it as Man?

This is great news! When you think how influential Facebook is, this will really go some way toward LGBTQ equality.

You know, I used to think of gender as a binary scale as well, but I am increasingly failing to see how that is true. It seems paradoxically essentialist, especially given that gender is almost entirely socially created. I mean, "masculine" and "feminine" change and some cultures recognize as many as five genders. Gender is probably a multi-axis scale, if anything,

Yes, it's ultimately whatever society says it is.

See my earlier poboy/sub sandwich comparison for why the duplication isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Some of them are just abbreviations of other ones or shorthand version so it doesn't appear to be parallel to your example. Also Im not digging through this thread, please post a link to your post.

E-attorneys don't make nearly that much. I charged Regnum $3 for this defence. It's not much but... it pays the bills...

So I've heard, and more than a few people in this thread have mentioned it not being available to them.

I interpret that as an indication Facebook is using the US as a testing grounds for the new changes they are rolling out. My guess is that if it goes smoothly in the US, it will be extended.

This pro-America bias will not stand. We must declare war on Facebook.

I had one for a while. It was a full-time job keeping up with people I didn't like in high school and wasn't really interested in now, not to mention their friends and children and people who might have met them once.

One of my reasons for ceasing that sort of social networking was that I found it to be detrimental, along with having to chat with people I didn't like or want to see.
