Maybe they'll understand what the difference between gender and sex is if they see it on Facebook.

Hold on to your math there. You can debate how many chromosomes exist but at the end of the day, the number of possible combinations is finite, it may be large, it may be small but it will never be infinite.
Also note chromosomes affect other things as well as sex, XYY for example doesn't constitute a new sex.

But it's not just for kids. I've hit Puberty. I Identify by Sex, Sexual Orientation and Gender. I can Identify by gender any agree. Gender is a part of the world.

Personally I couldn't really care considering the fact that it won't affect me personally but I like the fact that Facebook actually put the time and thought into trying to understand that some people don't see themselves in the normal two gender identity that we know and have grown up with. So I agree with this move and hope similar movements continue in other places.

I'm not necessarily saying that it is infinite, Chinese Regions disagreed with that statement too. There is a large number to be sure, but it isn't infinite. You'll reach a point where there's too much overlap.
