Giving them as much choice as possible is good and requires little to no extra effort. You're making a big deal out of nothing and being deliberately obtuse and pedantic along the way. Dammit. I was under the impression you could create your own gender. Facebook recognizing "space marine" or "Frank Horrigan" or "batman" or "pegasus" as my gender would have been great.

Exactly! Everyone has the right to determine their own identification and everyone has the duty to respect the other person's wishes to be identifies as whatever they so desire.
