That is my question

I probably would bow not because i am a supporter of royalty but just because it is what you do.

Yes. If I didn't, I'd be worried about my head.

It could get mounted on spikes on the city walls..

Well, it depends. If I'm a guest of a royal, it would be discourteous not to bow, if that is the custom. But if they are a guest of mine, then bowing I don't think is required.

I would respectfully incline my head, but not bow. Part of the point of being American is that you don't do that.

This, to be polite I would...if I am going to them, but if they visit me for whatever reason the tables turn.

I can show you pictures of Americans bowing or curtsey to Queen Elizabeth II

Were they inclining or were they bowing?

Exactly.

I see no reason not to if they wanted me to.

I believe your current President has set the standard for bowing to foreign royalty, lol.

Doesn't mean they're missing the point any less. It's not the moral equivalent, but an American could fly a flag of a nation that seeks to overthrow the United States (or sought to do so in the past), and be missing the point just about as much. They have a right to do so. Doesn't make it right to do so.

That was an informal greeting, not a formal symbol of obeisance, no matter what the right-wing bullshit artists have tried to say.

Really. I think people need to differentiate between a courteous tipping bow that Obama seems to do to a lot of people and a formal bow.

Alright. And? It is still courteous in some situations to bow, even just a tad. It doesn't make you any less equal to be respectful of someone in a position of authority by following the customs.

Well, I do have a bit of noble blood in my veins, being related to Mathius Corvinus and Bethlen Gabor which comes with being the great grandson of an Austrian-Hungarian baron.

I don't think I'd encounter such nobility and as a result would probably not do so unless I was told that such royalty were in the area.

I'd only curtsey if I was wearing a pretty dress and high heels.

But if I was, I'd likely do it for more people than just royalty. It's a cute gesture~

Like I said when hell freezes over! I will show respect to someone who has earned it, not simply because they dropped out of a particular birth canal (to put it politely).

I would begrudgingly bow my head to the Queen Elizabeth II (and any visiting leader of a democratic country, royal or no). The rest of the Windsors can stick it up their backsides though.

Depends on the individual. I dont have respect for inherited power. But i do have respect for someone who used that power to achieve something.
