Depends entirely on the royal house. Say, Queen Elizabeth or the British Monarchy, I most certainly would. The Saudi Arabian monarchy, on the other hand, I would fucking refuse. Some Monarchs deserve respect, others deserve nothing.

I, for one, would not. I see no reason to bow before them, or anyone else.

I do MT, PMT, PT, but not FT, PMT, or FanT. Too many blurred lines and people with overactive imaginations.

I'd bow, but it'd be a sarcastic bow. Unless I deeply respect the person, or my life would be in danger if I didn't.

I agree. Personally I feel the Roman Empire started way before Caesar came into power.

No, they didn't, at least in terms of formal bowing to indicate obeisance. Informal bowing has always been appropriate.

Ever watch that tv miniseries about John Adams? Even he was pained to curtesy in front of the King of England not once, not twice but three frickin' times. All because that was the 'etiquette' at the time.

How I see it, these royal monarchs usually hold absolutely zero power of their people, they're born into the world with stardom, prestige, and wealth. They've got it made as soon as they come from their mothers loins. So why would I, a former grunt and a hard working American who supports his family with actual work, bow to someone who has an almost perfect path to success as soon as they're born? It's ridiculous, etiquette be damned.

The rest of us? You get born into the world and you're just dust in the wind. Damn near the whole world won't even know you existed. If it happens that the monarch is a Saudi who leads a backwards but rich nation, I won't even shake his hand. I'll spit my redman into his eye. If I get put in the Pen for a while, well damn, I made a statement.

They wouldn't. They're not going to engage with randoms who don't bow to them. They'll just go about whatever it is they're doing.

Obama bowed to the Saudi one. Most bowed to Elizabeth.

No, he didn't, at least not formally. Any reasonable interpretation of that greeting shows him as giving an informal greeting, not a formal bow. But it's much more fun to pretend that he's so anti-American that he's willing to abase himself before foreign leaders, isn't it?

I would respectfully incline my head, as I believe that is an acceptable greeting when not a subject. There's a bit of an Irish Republican as I don't think I'd have it in me to bow to a monarch, I suppose.
