Six Medals up for grabs: Men's 5000, Women's Skiathlon, Men's 10000, Men's Slopes, Ladies Moguls and Men's Normal Hill.

Russia's got a shot in three of them :D

Are you as negative about the "iudgy sports" as I am? All those years of Russians messing with the figure skating scores, and so on. It seems to political. And someone can do a perfect job on a routine that is supposed to be technical (this goes for gymnastic as well as figure skating; I think it can apply to diving as well) and still gets points deducted for "style". What?!?

So I like plain simple competition, you are either fastest or not, or jump furthest, whatever. No opinions allowed.

Let's start with Russia:

Inside Russia there are several Federal Districts, we want the Southern one, the one between Green, Yellow and Purple:

Inside that Federal District, there is the Krasnodar Krai, number five:

Inside Krasnodar Krai there is Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana, (the black circle and blue square on the Krasnodar-Abkhaz border,) and all of the place between them is where the Olympics are!

Gymnastics, figure skating and the like should just be amazing. That's it...because it is (I can't really watch figure skating with much interest, but it is fucking amazing), it shouldn't be "These three people decided that this was marginally more amazing than this" and call that sport. Fuck that. Fastest, farthest, most goals etc. I don't want to take anything away from what the athletes in judgy sports do...holy crap that looks hard and amazing. But then to go and put a score on it, that just seems arbitrary no matter how they justify scoring.

You don't have to compete with your government, as long as you have some autonomy, and the major nation approves, i.e. Puerto Rico competes separately from the United States. In terms of Hong Kong, China approves, so they can compete. That's also one of the reasons why Taiwan has to compete as Chinese Taipei, not Taiwan. Nations can join, or chop their delegations up, etc. The Olympics are very flexible, as long as:

1. You are a UN member
2. All other UN members agree with your proposal, or have agreed in the past
3. You're an IOC member

You just need one of those to get it done.

Really enjoyed the Slopestyle today. Got up at 5am to see the Semi's which were awesome, slightly disappointed in the final as the judges seemed to be really harsh on everything. Not to mention the pressure definitely got to the competitors as a lot couldn't lay out a clean run, unlike the Semi's where they were all going big and pinning it.

Yay, blatant vandalism and then bragging about it on Twitter. How fun. I mean, if the games were in the US, would he have acted in the same way?

It's the same reason why the British Virgin Islands have their own Olympians.

The Canadians were favourites in the slopestyle, with the Brit press putting our guy Billy Morgan as a real contender (but how real that was I don't know considering the British press like to build up our chances when really they aren't in with a shout). Norway riders were also expected to be strong contenders.
