Abbott should have apologised for the spying incident because he represents the Australian Government. Rudd didn't take part in the Stolen Generations, but he still apologised for that.
Sending boats back is a violation of Indonesia's national sovereignty, dangerous for those on the potentially unseaworthy boats, and generally a dick move. Indonesia is also vastly less well equipped to deal with a steady trickle of asylum seekers than Australia, and we should fucking get over ourselves and stop acting like asylum seekers who arrived after WWII have any more of a right to be here than asylum seekers arriving right now.
Blackmailing Indonesia with foreign aid to force them to comply with Australia's opinion is a very neo-colonial approach that would paint Australia in an poor light and anger large elements of both Indonesian and Australian society. You don't seem to care much for national sovereignty, do you? Also, Indonesia is not Nauru. They could actually survive without Australian aid, and in my opinion no longer receiving Australian aid would probably endear the Indonesian government to the more anti-western elements in their society. Not a good move.

And I suppose they'd bitch when we'd spend our tourist dollars somewhere else as well.

Eh, maybe back in the day. But I wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole, considering she's probably had to eat out half of Kerobokan Prison to avoid getting stabbed.

And Meowfoundland is right Ozzy Aid to Indonesia is mainly spent on schools, infrastructure and reducing poverty
its strategic spend to stave off the rise of extremism which results feom poor uneducated masses -that would really bugger Australia

^ Pretty much this.
Too many Australians treat Indonesia, particularly Bali, as a fucking toilet.

Part of the policy of returning the boats is relocating the people into modern raft boats before escorting them bck to Indo waters., as seen in this article.http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/07/indonesia-objects-again-to-turnbacks-as-second-lifeboat-washes-up-on-java
Opinions on the policy aside, it seems quite brilliant to provide these rafts, ensuring their safe passage.

Fuck indonesia. They are possibly the worst neighbor a country could have.
They admitted to spying on us on several occasions but when we return the favor, it's a big deal?

Also, Vitaphone Racing is right in mentioning Australia's slaughtered journalists, Indonesia certainly won't apologise for that.
