How many of you actually have jobs? JOB CHAT!!!

Postby Isles of the United Armed Forces » Thu Feb 06, 2014 8:40 pm

I will allow this to turn in to a job discussion thread between every one to serve as inspiration for people searching or just to share over all Ideas on each others jobs.

I know most of you are kids on here but there seems to be a lot of teenagers on here as well if not adults, but how many of you have a job? What kind of job is it? What do you do at your job? Or if you are still in school and not old enough to get a job what would you like to have as your first job?

I am a Navy (SWCC) Gunner's Mate, We are built mentally, physically, and stubbornly tough. We are constantly awaiting orders at any time of day. If you would like to see what my job is all about check this out-> This Is what I live for!

Here is some information I can tell you to give you an idea of what my job in the United States Navy is
Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen, or SWCC, drive well-armed, fast boats in support of special operations missions on coasts and rivers including stealthy insertion and extraction of SEALs, clandestine reconnaissance and combat gunfire support. Using a variety of specialized boats and an aerial delivery system, SWCC operators are always ready to fight and support special operations forces anywhere in the world touched by water.
Like their Navy SEAL counterparts, SWCC operators must be physically fit, mentally tough, highly motivated, focused and responsive in high stress situations. SWCC operators undergo mentally and physically demanding training to become premiere maritime warriors. They are motivated, intelligent, self-starters who embody honor, courage and commitment. Their mission requires men who are adaptable to every environment, especially the water.

If you have any other questions on what I do in my job feel free to telegram me, I would be more than happy to answer it to the best of my abilities.

After telling me what job you have post a link to the website if your job has one, I would love to see what you do.

I have a job, and I pay income taxes, so I guess I'm not among the 47%... but I still wouldn't vote Republican anytime soon.

I've had several jobs. My last one was a Sales Associate at Walmart. At first I just stocked the Produce section, but slowly as they downsized and downsized the numbers of workers, I also had to stock Dairy, Meats, and lastly they had me also Unloading Trucks. I had had the occasional shift where I had to do all of them at once, :/

They ended up letting me go, they claim to make cuts for the Affordable Care Act. I know that because they argued it in court to keep me from drawing unemployment, which they won. Particularly terrible because after they got me unloading trucks I've had a persistent back injury of some kind(I can't afford to have anyone look at it, ironic considering I was fired to make cuts for a supposedly universal healthcare act, ) and it's made life pretty difficult for me.

That was in May of 2013, I haven't had another job since, though I've been looking. Lately I've pretty much given up, no one wants to hire a college student around here because they want you to have a completely open schedule. They're only hiring for part time and you have to be "flexible".

But it's whatever, I'm just going to take on the traditional student method of actually finishing school, massive amounts of debt until I can graduate and start paying it off. >_>

Yeah and even when you actually find a part time job while still in school it is usually in food services, cashier, working at clothes stores. Its not enough to get by I can tell you that.

Yeah its sad to see how some businesses treat their workers now. It just goes to show how "UNCONCERNED" these businesses are. to tell you the truth most businesses like that have what they call Disposable workers. Its "YOUR FIRED BRING IN THE NEXT ONE"

What incentive does Walmart have to prevent you from drawing from a government insurance program?

As an adult Im a welder (Both Arch & TIG).
However I must state that even those who are teens may have jobs, and perhaps even apprenticeships or at least are working in some fashion (perhaps with a career goal in mind).

Your guess is as good as mine. The guy who actually both fired me and conducted my phone court hearing over unemployment was later fired for embezzlement. So at least some justice was carried out, lol.

Welding was something I was actually looking in to before I joined the Navy. I enjoyed the Idea of working on cars, architecture, or even rail parts for tanks. But I could not find a well enough paying job in that feild that would take me.

The last time I had a job was 2009, when I worked in a bankruptcy department for a major international bank. The next time I work will be later this year, where I will spend the rest of my life atoning for working in that bank.

Woodcutter of firewood. Paid in food, room, and board given my age as my parents are legally no longer responsible for my care. As a result, I have to sunder wood all the time. If I split more than a tree a day, I get paid.

I quit my job last month.

I've had two jobs in my life.

I first worked in a suit store, but I had to quit because I couldn't work with the schedule. I then worked in a restaurant, and I quit so I could play rugby.

Worked a delivery job last summer, five or six hours a week moving CSAs for a couple local farms. Year before that, worked for my dad's small business harvesting vegetables and helping with sales. Year before that, harvesting on a farm outside of town.

I just got my certification a couple weeks ago. Shouldn't be too hard to find something, with the Water Park Capital of the World barely an hour away.

Yes despite the training necessary its still a competitive trade especially based on your region and the availability of your competitors. Im lucky enough that there is a high demand in Alberta, Canada. Im currently upgrading to plasma welding, and would LOVE to master submarine (underwater no other connotation meant) welding (although its EXTREMELY dangerous & Extremely profitable, and im to old to make that feasible; therefore a "pipe dream").
Alternatively I find it Ironic that Ive considered a military career as a young man. Although I would have liked to gain those skills; I recognized even then that my reflexive rejection to authority would make that impossible; hence I chose a trade instead.

PS as a member of the military they might still subsidize your training in this trade as they would need those with this skill.
