Separate but "equal" is not equal. "Civil unions" is nothing but a pathetic attempt to continue the treatment of LGBT people as second class citizens, just less obviously so than before.

Hmmm...I admit you may be right about this. I don't want to treat LGBT people as second class citizens, but I also don't want them to defile marriage. I am conflicted... What should I do?

Try to understand this, once and for all: You don't need to worry about your holy sacrament being defiled. Legalizing same-sex marriage won't affect your religious rites, much in the same way that legalizing interreligious marriage didn't affect your religious rites. Matrimony will still be between one man and one woman in your denomination.

Realize that religion is irrelevant to the secular institution of civil marriage.

Maybe you will understand when your best friend is dying from a gunshot wound and you ask god to save him and he doesn't answer and you watch your friend die. A innocent victim who loved god just as you do.

One day, you will beg god to help heal a loved on who is doing day by day in front of you. You will beg him to stop the slow decay of one of your parents as he slowly loses himself to a terrible disease. You will beg him to help your mother who gets progressively more depressed by the day, as your father loses the ability to walk, then to think, then to control any bodily function. You will beg god to do something as your father loses himself everyday, until he is no longer the person you remember. And, on that last day, when you hear his breath rattle in his chest, when you see his stomach distend and become huge, when he finally takes that last breath, and god did not answer, maybe then you will understand.

MS? :(

I'm so sorry.

One step at a time. It'll get there one day, where a religion cannot bar people from being with loved ones.

Let me ask you this: Do you understand the term "separation of Church and State"? .

That term never appears in the constitution...its a myth perpetuated by the liberal media. I agree there should be no official state religion, because the constitution says that. But not more.

The term separation of church and state is a simplification of an idea that exists in the constitution.

The term separation of church and state is a simplification of an idea that exists in the constitution.

It is also not invented by the "liberal media." It was a concept drafted by the Founding Fathers and expressed in the Free Exercise clause, among others.

Just because it is not stated in black and white doesn't mean it isn't in the constitution.

Thanks. My point was that knowing god does not in some way ensure you know happiness and safety. It is not some sort of shield, nor is it some sort of cure all.

Could you please re-read what you just posted. Specifically these two sentences:

That term never appears in the constitution...

I agree there should be no official state religion, because the constitution says that.

The separation of Church and State is pretty much that: no official state religion, no laws based on the doctrine of a particular religion, no religions being unfairly discriminated, etc.

So, really, you pretty much just refuted yourself:
its a myth perpetuated by the liberal media.

That is clearly not true. ;)

That's known as an appeal to nature fallacy - where you assume something is good because it is natural, or bad because it isn't. But your position is a good one - everyone is a bit prejudiced whether we want to be or not, but overcoming that prejudice is what's important.

Genrally, illogical reasons based mostly on anecdotes and circular logic are not considered valid.
