Your precious religion does not have to marry them. Some faiths however, have moved beyond the year 67AD.

No, we're fucking not.

How will letting two gay men who love each other get married force the "homosexual lifestyle" into your religion?

He is perfectly right. Gay marriage causes absolutely no harm to anyone (it hurts the feelings of some social conservatives, but too bad).

That harm is self inflicted, so even it isn't worth anything.

Again, marriage is secular institution, there is not sanctity to it. Second, you have yet to explain how having two people marry defiles its...sanctity. Especially considering you have marriages between heterosexuals that only last a day.

Nobody wants churches to be forced to perform gay weddings. Marriages can be secular and performed by the state. It doesn't touch the church unless the minister complies.

It'd be like crying oppression when the African American Society of Engineers (made it up) doesn't allow admission to an Asian guy. Not oppression, just exclusion because you didn't meet the qualifications. If gay civil unions had all the same rights as marriages, why would you still need marriage? Please tell me.

So what exactly is the difference between this and marriage?

no one is forcing you to accept every gay marriage ever. basically every law ever allows churches to choose not to marry gay coupes if they don't want to.

they're not forcing the homosexuality lifestyle into your religion because your religion doesn't own marriage

The bible doesn't count as a valid argument for being against LGBT rights.

You are not being forced to marry gay people, so nobody is forcing a homosexual lifestyle into your religion. Besides, marriage as a concept is not unique to Christianity, let alone whatever branch of it you adhere to.

Sanctity of marriage? Do you know the divorce rate?

Gays getting married will do nothing to your religion.

Since again marriage is a civil institution entirely separate from any religions institution, no it isn't. You want a word special to religious marriage, use matrimony.

Yes, but what specifically makes it holy? I mean, if all benefits from it are the same, then isn't it identical for all intents and purposes?

you see, they are separate, but also equal!

Except no one would actually be physically separating gay people, just differentiating the term used to refer to their union. There is a big difference there.

If they are differentiating a term for which all the legal benefits are exactly the same, then that is by definition discrimination. It is probably the best example of how separate but equal does not exist.

That's still a form of discrimination. Plus, some Christian gay couples may desire to be wed in the eyes of God.
