What the gays can't do the straight people can't do either...

I don't know... I've heard a lot of stories about gays turning straight from my days in the Institution (religious high school... GOD I hate that place).

Ok. A few points.

First of - anecdotes can be mentioned, but in a debate, they really don't hold much water. That said ... we are who we are in a large part due to our experiences, and the information we have to hand, which tends to color our viewpoints, arguments, etc. Lighten up a little, people. There are times, believe it or not, when there are not hardline black and white answers.

One that LEAPS to mind is the claim that you do not 'choose' to be gay. Hear me out on this one. One does not have to be a 'liar' about this idea of 'changing from', if you pause to think for a moment. Society is largely heterosexual. People tend to, overall, be brought up with the idea that men and women pair off, and that is simply how it is. High School is an incredibly stressful time in any young person's life, feeling pressure from family, school, peers, friends, all the expectations that are heaped on them from every corner while attempting to go through physiological changes to boot, all that lovely puberty issue that's built up for a few there coming to a head, and the mental and emotional growth that goes with it?

It isn't hard to believe that one goes with what is 'expected', and when one finally comes to grips with the fact that what is expected is not working, and does not make them happy, chooses not to 'change', but acknowledge who and what one is. And be content. I think we've all seen the fallout in situations when people have not been able to, for whatever reasons be it lack of support or overwhelming stress, emotional breakdown, or what have you, been able to work through that moment of clarity.

It is not 'changing'. It is finally 'being' who they are. To an outside eye? Change. That doesn't necessarily make it so, however. I too have had friends over the years. I've dated a few of them back in the day. And looking back now? It makes sense. So there - my 'anecdote' for the day. Having preached, let's get down to brass tacks on the thread and some behavior going on here.

And in closing ... We have a mega-thread for all of these because they have become so common as people cue to the idea that maybe, just maybe, everyone ought to have a choice, that they appear to be changing the laws in droves.
