I'm brown and I consider myself as British as any British person. As a matter of fact, I'm probably more patriotic than the average British person. So what does it matter if more people have brown skin? People can be proud of their country no matter the colour of their skin. A Latino man is as American as an American in the US.

Don't you just love it when Democrats and Republicans do math? So what happens? Right, instead of redoing the census, they split up the first two categories, and add one, so they get:

White, not of Hispanic Origin: 42.3%
Hispanic of Latino of any Race: 37.6%
Multiracial: 4.8%

Whoever came up with this method should be... deported if possible. Even if they're white. Is Sweden taking white people in? Of course even with that fix, that still fails to add up to 100, (adds 109.4%) which is a mere rounding error for the idiots in Sacramento. Addition is so hard! Now, here's my idea of how the census should be done:

Yeah, this was rather strange when I saw it too. I don't think you can group Latinos/Hispanics into one group though. They're not even genetically homogeneous (within a reasonable tolerance).

Mexico is not taking back the land, but Mexicans are. Ever hear of the Reconquista movement? Or how the majority of Hispanics in the US identify with another ethnic or culture group before American? Of course not all Hispanics are Mexicans, but most Hispanics in California are.

I like this, but for another reason. That reason being that in March of 2014, it is expected that the number of ethnic latinos will overtake the number of non-latino whites in California. It is like Gaddafi's words hold precedence in everywhere, and the evils of what the Anglos did to the Californios following the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo will be reprimanded.

So Nationstates, there are two questions here for you right here: One is economic, one is cultural. 1) How good is this for the economy of California? 2) On a culture basis, is this a healthy fact to live with.

My opinion:
1) Yes. This is phenomenal. This is great and has the ability to further what has already been happening for decades. In the East, Miami has made itself the economic capital of the Caribbean. I believe that Los Angeles is the western equivalent for Mexico and Central America. It has served as a mesh pot for these different ethnicities and the number of businesses that cater to these populations are immense and growing. My favorite example has to be Univision. For those who don't have to watch the women of the family fight over which Telenovela is best, let me run this down for you: Univision and Telemundo are the big giants in Spanish language entertainment. Although there are others, these are the two giants. Univision has seemed to win the battle. The reason as to why may stem from their ability to target non-Mexican latinos better but whatever. Univision has propelled itself to the fourth most popular TV station in the country. It even topped all channels, Eng or Spanish, in the 18 to 49 demographic in September of 2010. But back to California, this goes without to say, that there are people who think otherwise. Afterall, the immigrants that usually come to California are much poorer than the ones that go to New York or Miami. But given that illegal immigrants (most of which are Mexican) make up 6.8% of the population and 9.7% of the work force, it is clear that like the Poles in the UK (Represent), Latinos subsidize the unemployment benefits and programs of California, of which there are many, and of which many of these people cannot participate or benefit from. However, with legal residents and American-born latinos, they also tend to be poorer than the average white or asian child in the state. But the increased trade with MCA (Mexico and Central America) that comes with the growth is also another boost.

2) Yes, I think that this is a culturally healthy thing as well. This may seem like the reconquista mexicana to some, but really, with the rate of assimilation in the country being so high, most of these immigrants' grandchildren will only know Spanish through school, and will be essentially United Statian. After three generations, they are no longer Mexican-American, but just American. What has allowed the language to flourish is the constant stream of new migrants ready to but on their boots and work. This large population is giving California a new mixed hybrid culture and identity that I see as a great thing.

This was very tangent-y, but I feel is something that is important. I feel a personal desire to attach to this news and run with it. I am happy that the Latinos are able to call this state home, as well as essentially every other state in the Southwest, South, and East, but I still see that political power and economic power still lies with the White population as it has for the past four centuries. Nothing much will change as you walk through the streets, but when these people have babies (of which, Latinos have been found to have many more babies, and ensure that the USA doesn't have a European-styled crisis), they will grow, and ensure that the race question gets solved once and for all, whatever that means.

Since Hispanics are generally Catholic, I think that its a good thing.
