Although I'm not necessarily proud of the USA, I am loyal to it.
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?

The United Brony Armies wrote:I am very proud of America. I'm lucky to live here. I often imagine what my life would be like in other countries and it makes me cringe. I love the ideas this country was based on and I think we had a good system. When the OP says that European countries care about their populace he/she is hinting that America doesn't. I would like to take this opportunity to tell him/her that if America didn't care about the populace we wouldn't still be free. I know many, many people say that no president would ever remove the Constitution, but if our government really stopped caring about the populace, who is to say that wouldn't happen if it would guarantee them personal gain.

Yeah, you care so much for your population that you let people starve to death on the streets while entire neighborhoods is filled with empty houses that slowly rot away after the previous inhabitants were evicted following the banks trashing the economy.

Back to my point though I am proud of being American because America took down the best military power of history, Great Britain. A bunch of dedicated soldiers fought for what they felt was right and won. And think about how many revolutions have happened in history since then. How many people have fought (whether they won or lost) to be free. To have the same privileges as Americans do. That's why I'm proud of my country and I would gladly give my life protecting it. I know a lot of people will disagree with me and that's fine this is all about opinion. I think America is a great nation, no matter how stupid the people running it currently are. Because people can get better and things can change, that's what life is all about.

America didn't do that - a bunch of men (who were hardly even American at that time) did. And what a bunch of men did centuries ago is hardly something to be proud of now. It's just history, completely disassociated from the current population.

I may be an American, but I neither can be proud nor loyal of a country that professes one thing but does another - lesser of evils or otherwise. As if asked in the next life to give accountability for my actions by a Supreme Creator, there is no possible reason whatseover to support such systems.

I don't know about proud, but I would consider myself to be a loyal, or at least law-abiding, citizen of the United States. I also consider myself to be a patriot.

Naturally, and that therein the problem exists. The history of peaceful government isn't just a fairy tale, but the most intentional of lies by the victors of the world.

I was born in the UK. I have absolutely zero loyalty to, or pride in this country. Perhaps it's because though I was born here I didn't grow up here, but either way I have no time for the place. It's not just the crappy socio-economic policies (destruction of public housing, mass privatisation, welfare cuts etc.) but also the culture itself that turns me off - a lack of commitment too or respect for education, a low-skill/low-pay work culture, proud anti-intellectualism, rascism and disdain for high culture, multiculturalism or cultural fusion.

I'm just about to complete my post grad training, so as soon as I've got a job offer, I am out of here one last time. I wouldn't defend the place. I don't intend to keep my passport. My best feelings toward the UK can be summed up as "If I leave them alone, they might leave me alone".

My nation disappeared in 1980. We were loyal to it, probably to a fault. I will not be loyal to another. It all seems so pointless. Let the animals and the trees have the planet. We've mucked it all up.

I feel nothing for the Philippines. I like the occasional shopping strip or business district around Manila (immediate area where I work these days is mighty fine), but other than that I don't really bother.

Not really, no. America has been responsible for a lot of suffering and antagonism worldwide, especially over the last 100 yrs. But recently with Presidents like Nixon, Reagan, and both Bushes, horrendous atrocities have been committed which make me embarrassed to be from the US.

Am I proud with a backwards country that can hardly get anywhere, without pretending to be the greatest beacon of 'freedom'? Am I proud of a country that curtails basic civil rights and allows things like the Church to live tax-free? Am I proud of a country that still lets religious dogma in to everything, including legislation, but says 'Oh no, we're totally separated guys!'? Am I proud of a country that came in at the right time, and honestly could have taken the world by storm, but is instead destroying itself from the inside out? And finally, should I be proud of a country that sees war and antagonizing as the answer to every solution, as evidenced by the 21 years of peace that it's had since its existence? Am I proud of a country who spies on its own citizens so unashamedly, while those citizens are fooled in to believing their rights being curbed is totally okay and for the best?

No. I'm not, and I'm not a patriot.

Canada great and all. But loyal? Fuck that, if this country does something stupid I will sure as hell will not stand behind it. Much like I have denounced my Russian ancestry over their recent bullshit. I generally only only show pride during sports and whatnot. Anytime else seems a bit too nationalistic for me. Like when we have to stand for the freaking anthem every goddamn morning in school, that's ridiculous.

Damn I remember that. Flag ceremony. Had that in my country of origin too. That went on from the outset of elementary school all the way to the end of secondary. Unpleasant business.

With regard to my country I don't even support all of the major athletes that compete globally. Pacquiao lost my respect when he ran for congress and won.

[quote="Haafingar and Hjaalmarch";p="18528572"]Honest question. Do you feel a sense of loyalty or pride to your country of birth?

You see, I'm an American. I voted twice for Obama hoping for real change and so far nothing. quote]

the fact you voted for him is funny enough but all in all yes America is great and I am proud of America we have our faults as does everyone. I am also a South African and proud of South Africa as well. But go MURICA!

Am I proud of a country who spies on its own citizens so unashamedly, while those citizens are fooled in to believing their rights being curbed is totally okay and for the best?

No. I'm not, and I'm not a patriot.

Not to say other countries are utopias, but goddamn, this one's awful.

Not as of late. Putin is a dick. Medvedev is also a dick and now theyre getting us into some pointless conflict all because Ukraine's recent situation is affecting Putin's little Russian empire.
