Why is Russia still the world's largest country on this ideal map? In my ideal map, Eastern Europe and Russia would be annexed by Germany, the USA would be annexed by Canada, and Africa would be annexed and divided by France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy.

I live in the Northeast, and I can tell you Vermont does not want to join canada, neither do New Hampshire or Maine. Like all the states they grumble about federal authority from time to time, but they don't want to become their own nation. Most of New England is incredibly patrotic about the United States as a unified country. it's a holdover from their civil war past.
Vermont is actually split north and south, with the south being universities and cities, and the north being rural farms. NH is the same way, but with more industry in the south, and forest industry in the north.
They have close trade and culture ties to canada in the north, and would love to see a boost in trade with their northern cousins. But New England is wedded to the ideals of America.

Come to think of it, they'd probably push for bringing alaska, texas, and california back into the union, by force if necessary.

Of all the states only Texas has ever seriously considered becoming it's own country. (Except during the civil war, but that's a totally different topic.)
