Only private schools seem to offer the decent education around here, even in Ateneo though, sometimes i complain on the education system that exists there.

Our education system is not really taken seriously on the international stage, in fact the new k-12 program is just an update according to the rest of the already updated version across the developed World...

Maybe because there's no profit in education? I mean if it would be some acquisition deal, politicians will profit from it.

I'm interested with what Asigna said though. Didn't PNoy bragged about solving the lack of classroom?

Indeed he did, he also modernized the educational system according to that of the international community... At-least to some degree anyway... Nonetheless the problem has successive it's only been his Administration that seems to have done something about it...

Is it also true that the school year for K-12 is getting moved?
Well I guess its better than no reform at all.

I recall though, in his SONA, sure, the lacking of classrooms is solved but what is the quality of our public education. Folks, compare this public education we are having to that of the foreign nations, it would seem as if they were private schools. Hard to believe a few makeshift huts turned schools are all works that the government has been recently bragging about. But i sympathize with Pinoy to some extent, there is not enough funding for the education department, why so? It all boils down to corruption.

Is it worth visiting as a tourist spot?

I have heard VERY mixed reviews and as a person who knows very little about the location, am curious.

Just get out of Manila and you'll be fine.:) Manila's terrible. It's the national anus.

I haven't been back home in a while, but you should try Subic, Baguio or Mindoro if you're fond of diving. Palawan's pretty good too, or up to Ilocos or the Cagayan valley if you're up for a road trip.

Yeah. I personally don't like the capital, but other places are awesome, like Batanes and Palawan.

Or perhaps it goes somewhere unnecessary, like pointless road rehabilitation. In my city, they keep destroying and rebuilding roads that doesn't need to be fixed, while the town next to us have shitty traffic and roads. There's also those GOCCs that doesn't really benefit the people.

Oh my friend, it has been political stock knowledge that the pointless rehabilitation thing (which is done everywhere including here in Zamboanga city) is merely a scam being done by politicians every time. How is it done? For example, one road project costs 5 million, but the politicians responsible for it decides to get 2 million out of the 5 million pesos so the road project only gets 3 million pesos. That is corruption. And what is worse, so that the politicians involved do this even though the road is perfectly fine so that they could have the opportunity to get more money for themselves at the expense of our welfare and the sweat of labor which was sustained in making those road projects complete.

Common knowledge to most residents who like to pry a little more than others, yes. It's only of many ways the administration scams us all with their shit. :p I'm from Isabela and pretty much everyone from Cagayan to Nueva Ecija knows that Region II's smuggling operation's run by Enrile.

Agreed, if the administration is serious about curbing corruption, they should crack down on these type of things, not just pork barrel. In the long run, these type of scams will cost us as much as the pork barrel scam.

Yup, Port Irene. Always a large walled area where you'll see fleets of cars haphazardly parked. Either that or they're in warehouses.

That is, when only public education is concerned since certain private schools like Ateneo tend to offer good education as how i knew it in my high school years. Ateneo is not even funded, the Jesuit priests that run the school have to beg for money from charitable institutions abroad since more than half of the students are scholars or discountees in the Ateneo. The government allocates 0% funds for the sake of upholding the services being done by these private institutions that try their best to mold a society that is: Pro deo et Patria, or for god and country.

Frankly, I don't think US will defend Philippines, with our sorry state of affairs. I'd imagine that the American public would oppose sending troops just to defend uninhabited islands.

Agreed. As it is they're already weary of war. I doubt they'd be excited about sending more men to die for a developing 3rd world country on the other side of the world.

It's merely more of a symbolic political victory for Obama that he is able to show powers challenging the United states in Asia pacific that his power can still reach in this region. He is not really going to use them to defend us full time when we need them anyway. The pact was signed but Obama would not be willing to deal with a threat on the other side of the world, just to show off that US power can be brought everywhere.
