This stereotype of the Filipino race forever being maids to other races is pathetic and therefore, it is the government's responsibility to make jobs available in this nation so that we won't have to worry about the OFWs abroad as OFWs had been always the center of our foreign policy.

Not to offense anyone, one of my relatives worked in China, he said that some people there lack common sense. Maybe it's just him generalizing the people.

If they allow a communist government to rule over them for so long, then yes they do lack that.

The Church/CBCP is. And Catholics are extreme? Ever heard of bible belt? Plus if we were extreme, then why does the Philippines rank one of the highest in the world in terms of tolerance of LGBT? Higher than US, SK and Japan.

BSP has T-bills and securities akin to T-bills.

Emilio Aguinaldo wrote:Yeah, I get that, they are against the Government that they left behind so in a way they can help us against this whole dispute.

The Chinese also hate China? A bit strange knowing that Asians are patriotic.[/quote]

In the Philippine case, the bulk of Chinese-Filipinos are already 2nd or 3rd or even 4th Generation from the original immigrants (the last waves of whom I'd expect to have come shortly before the Chinese Civil War ended in 1948); so by now they're as Filipino as anyone else. If they retain any "Chinese-ness" it will be in some cultural hangups inherited from their parents or grandparents or if they were put through private schools that teach them Chinese (there are a few), but yeah, no loyalty to China especially the People's Republic.

The Republic of Pantalleria wrote:Why would they leave China in the first place? It is the Second largest economy in the World, I get why the Spaniards are leaving for France and Belgium but Chinese from China?

A lot of reasons why they'd leave even today: they just don't like the Party or they're a persecuted group/"enemy-of-the-state", they think there's better opportunity outside (better to be an entrepreneur in ASEAN than a sweatshop/factory worker in China I suppose - especially if you have no connections to the Party to help your business/you're not with the Triads), change of scenery, etc. Just because one has the largest or second largest economy doesn't guarantee people will want to stay there.

Speaking of anecdotes of Chinese people:

A very good friend of mine studied in Peking University (one of their premier universities, and one of the best in Asia now apparently) graduated just last year, he says even the "very best and brightest" there, while technically quite competent, are very poor as far as critical thinking and opinionmaking is concerned. They need to do what they're told, and apparently they mostly buy whatever Xinhua/Global Times/other State Media tell them.

Another friend of mine visited Beijing just this January, and he says the same thing. Many of the locals he talked to just simply take the Party/State's word for it regarding most things, and don't bother to question it.

I refute that statement. It is not that people hate their nation altogether, rather, they hate the government or lose faith in the government that runs it instead. There are some people who hate everyone who dwells in their own nation altogether though they are merely a minority. Much especially in Asia, where the patriotism is rising.

For the most part, they usually just don't give a crap. They have their own lives to lead (especially here in the Philippines, hard to be patriotic when you need to eat).

Nationalism and Patriotism in East Asian countries, from what I've seen, is often artificially engendered, either wittingly (PRC and NK and to a lesser extent Vietnam) or unwittingly by media players with agendas (Japan, probably Korea). This is not to say they are never patriotic, but to get them to display it (and display it violently), it needs very healthy encouragement from media/propaganda.

Generally, judging people by their ancestors is a bad idea. The society of the past have different ideas than they do today. The inquisitors were for heretics in Spain, the order of priests in the colonies. Less violent, but more corrupt.

Maybe that's what the Party wanted from the very start, a populace that's taught not to question authority.

Birth controls and knowledge about it is unavailable to general populace, doesn't mean Catholics are extreme. If anything, some Protestant sects are.

Again, have you heard of the Bible Belt? Have you seen what Russia has been doing to LGBT people (which might have been influenced by the Orthodox Church). The very fact that despite Philippine's high level of religiosity and influence of the Church, that we are ranked Asia's friendliest nation to gay people, disproves your argument.

Well if it's from a 100 MILLION then I'm pretty sure that's a big problem, after all Spain only has like what? 30-40 million.

So the fact that we're not friendly towards contraception despite a clear need and want for it is not a good argument to consider? :eyebrow:
