Yes that was their policy, but sovereignty is quite different from recognized autonomy (limited liberties as a territory) completely dependent on your consistent turning in of tribute.

The autonomy Rizal is speaking of is the one like in Spain, but to be closer to home that region in Mindanao.

Evidence to support this claim?

Indeed. We don't have enough to conclusively tell, only that in Spain he sought "justice for Filipinos" and equality in representation. I've never come across anything explicitly stating he sought statehood, although anyone may feel free to correct me at this point.

Equal representation for Filipinos before the Spanish Courts and Social Justice sounds more like a province, and at best special autonomy status like the SAR's of China, but even that would have been unlikely since, were he practical, he would have known that such ideas would have been novel and certainly controversial at the time, and most opposed to Imperial Spain's policy for its colonies.

Time to start a new topic. The ASR are the most renowned in the world right? I just watch Manhunt and saw them track Joel Lambert with just their skills and a measuring device.

Not really novel, but probably controversial. The Philippines was actually represented twice in the Spanish Cortes, both during period when Spain had a more liberal administrations: The Cádiz Cortes had a representative from the Philippines, and also during the Trienio Liberal (1820-1823). Philippine representation in the Spanish Cortes was abolished on 16 April 1837.

Really? IIRC he pushed for autonomy as a province.

It'd be interesting to think if that succeeded. Philippines would be ran like Canada, Australia and other Commonwealth nations, but under the Spanish crown.

Franco would likely have revoked such status when he came to power due to his centralist views.

Invading any Hispanic influenced countries is always a bad idea. See: Mexico, Spain, Philippines. Mexican-American war, Napoleonic wars, WWII respectively.

What do you mean? America got Texas and California from Mexico plus the Philippines, Cuba, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, etc from Spain as-well and it only served to turn those countries anti spanish.

Plus seriously? You do realise that Spanish influence and British influence are two very different things right? :eyebrow: The fact that we were colonised by the Spanish is basically just a death sentence.

The Netherlands beat up Spain as you can remember, Belgium has three national languages none of them Spanish, Italy has a very corrupt Government with an over 11% unemployment rate and France strikes all the time, plus they're French not Spanish...

Four euros a pack to be correct. I admit we are lazy, but would you rather slave away for six or so Euros an hour doing manual labour or will you sell fifty packs and earn as much as the other guy's three day's worth of work.

How are the French, Italians, Belgians and Dutch influenced by Spain? I mean two out of four of those countries are already jokes but if you must remember the. Netherlands and Belgium kicked Spain out 500 years ago, hardly influencing if you ask me, plus they had their own culture up there just as the Germans had as-well...

1. Logistic problems, but still owned for quite a while. If we were beat up then why did it take them 80 years?
2. See above
3. Duchy of Milan. I think even you guys would be envious of Italian healthcare. Italy corrupt? Yes, says the pot to the kettle.
4. Most Filipinos I know complain about being called by their bosses after 6pm.
