There are, and a lot of them are dying due to the modernization and globalization happening, as most people from nomadic tribes dwindle in numbers due to old age, their descendants going to towns, and unknown status of others.

No revivalist groups/neo-pagan revivals? I've read about the Philippines' mythology and I find it very interesting and diverse. It'd be a shame to see it all die out under the heel of Judaeo-Christianity.

It is very interesting and diverse. Good thing that academic institutions strive their best to keep what is still left. We cannot deny that the passage of time only allow technological progress and formulation of newer ideas that are far from animistic, paganist beliefs. And we can all blame the Judaeo-Christianity even though Philippines was first dominated by Islam, not to mention that most of the pre-colonial beliefs were much aligned to Hinduist, Buddhist and non-Christian faiths.

If we will discuss how Europeans like Spain see the Philippines as a potential superpower by replacing the animist beliefs with their Catholicism, let us not forget that folk Catholicism also went into place, and the most dominant category of Catholicism in the country, especially in the provinces. And if the picture is not clear yet, folk Catholicism is a mixture of local mythology and (Medieval - there's a reason why we're stuck there) Catholic traditions and customs. So, no, for me, Philippine animist culture just changed dress from loincloths to glamorous robes with jewels and ornaments.

One notable similarity is the veneration of saintly images. Back in precolonial Philippines, people worship statues of human form. As Spain arrived, they introduced a much more beautiful image and thus the locals quickly loved and hugged Catholicism as one premise of it. AS ONE PREMISE of it (to prevent assumptions that I am generalizing again).

I invite you to read our past arguments to see what the whole ruckus was really about.

I hope there are. Truly indeed, a country that is true to the roots and what is fitting for it will prosper. Catholicism, and the cultural status quo is not fitting for the Philippine society on many grounds (too many to list).

Both Ryan Rems and AlDub deserve credit for enlivening the Filipino audience. It's the positive side of Filipino humor and its measurement of resilience. The real shallow people are those who say they're ignorant, like happiness is a logical statement for them. Those people who tell of that are the ones that condemn today's Filipino social structure, its history and cannot take the pill of reality. I do hope those people I'm talking about would experience more horror if not happiness from shallow humor.

Oh, it's not you Neo, but something else. SOMETHING else :P
