Evolution is a fact. We can literally see it happening right in front of our eyes with antibiotic-resistant bacteria and the like.

Scores of bacteria, with various random genetic mutations. In one of those bacteria, one of those mutations allowed it to survive antibiotics better. When all the non-resistant ones were killed off by the antibiotic, the resistant ones survived and repopulated.
Evolution didn't "give them" resistance because it was helpful. It happened randomly and the mutation was one that just happened to result in the ones with the mutation being able to produce more offspring than the ones without.
This is why beavers don't have chainsaws for hands. Evolution doesn't give you what's easiest. It throws random things at you and some of the random things are slightly more helpful than others. The harmful ones get weeded out, the helpful ones pile up.
