Nigeria's economy is going to be pretty bad now that everyone is going to tell that prince to go fuck himself and the homophobic horse he rode in on.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

First Uganda, now this. Another African country is continuing down the path of extremism.

Nope, this should not affect our international relations with Nigeria.

Democracy can be pretty ugly sometimes. Anti-homosexuality isn't really "extremism" on the world stage; it might be here, but 90% of Nigerians, as well as 90% of Russians, for instance, are completely opposed to allowing homosexuality - that's mainstream behavior over there.

Better yet, just drop pro-Atheism politicians from a plane to democratically take control of the nation.

And people think that LGBT rights are progressing. The world is really regressing.

And, of course, nobody is going to do jack shit about Nigeria because they have oil and nobody would have the balls to condemn them because of it.

Won't work as well due to 90+% being religious fundamentalists in places like Nigeria.

Nah, drop atheist missionaries. Or possibly just pro-homosexuality Christian ones, since they would have an easier time.

Missionary work for atheism would end up turning into a religion which needs far better organization than a scattering of unaffiliated atheists.

Except that the fundamentalists are also building hospitals, schools, etc. It's part of why they're so successful: everyone likes them for the hospitals and schools, and so they trust them on the theology.

I'm so pissed off I'm actually speechless. This law only adds insult to the injury of Sharia law in certain regions, it serves no purpose other than pander to the mindless bloodthirst of individuals who I'm quite certain understand little to nothing about LGBT issues, and its effects will only be negative.

Congratu-fucking-lations, Nigeria. You fucked it up.

Furthermore, claiming that banning homosexuality is not extremism on the world stage is awfully dishonest.

On the Western stage, it is for sure. Banning homosexuality would be shocking in Denmark, for sure. Not so shocking in Nigeria, though. The whole world does not share the same values as you.

Caught me over generalizing on Russia, there, I was writing a little too fast. What I meant there was that the overwhelming majority of Russians oppose the advancement of gay rights and support Putin's new law.

Get ready to see a trend, folks. Cracking down on the homosexuals is the new way to show yourself apart from the West, which much of the world is eager to do, now that the West has reached a consensus on being nice to the gays.

Except that, going by sheer numbers, the majority of the world's nations at the very least keep homosexuality legal, including the world's most populated nation and the three most economically powerful, and while India recently re-criminalized it, its government is already on its way to legalizing it. Recent moves in Russia and Africa are little more than 'manotazos de ahogado', reactionaries desperately attempting to cling onto laws and social norms that the international community frowns upon with increasing disdain.

Homosexuality is perfectly legal in many non-Western countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_by_country_or_territory The map available on the following website of the countries where male to male relationships are legal, while slightly outdated, shows that homosexuality is permitted in the majority of countries. http://ilga.org/ You are being dishonest. This isn't about Western vs. other cultures, it's about humanity.

Take a look at the colors of the map again in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia, and compare to the colors you see in the Americas, Western Europe, and the Anglosphere.

Are you telling me you can't see the readily apparent patterns there?

The only readily apparent patterns are in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and some parts of Africa.

Patterns suggesting what? That the amount of pro-LGBT citizens and politicians in certain countries is still too small and lacking in influence to produce a change in very old laws?
