There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. So you will be taxing churches, and churches are area of practice. Some churches would not stay afloat and suddenly you are preventing practice of religion.

The best thing we could do is start taxing religion, and export over some atheists.

Taxing religion interferes with the first amendment right.

Exactly, and if religion is taxed, less money from the church's income will be going to charities such as homeless shelters, child care, etc.

Those are tax deductable.
If a church uses all it's money on charity it pays no tax.
If it uses half it's money on charity, the other half can be taxed.

Are you denying there are churches that are simply profit organizations? Because I'd love to be that faithful in humanity again.

Yeh there is a benefit.
The tax would force them to send it all to charity or pay the tax. Something a lot of them currently don't do.

A corporation tax seems sufficient.
If other religions get taxed more it's because they are doing less charity.
A church couldn't close from just the corporation tax.

The churches having excess funding led pretty directly to this kind of problem.
It means they can fund insane escapades like this. Or donate to political candidates. How "Charitable."

Couple that with the special privileges the religious receive in society and it's no wonder they feel entitled to do this kind of shit in Nigeria.

Do you not know how taxes work? Profits are taxed. Not operating costs.
I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

That and churches are nonprofit, kind of like political groups that get tax-exempt status. When people advocate taxing churches for preaching politics, they seem to forget this.
