We "discovered" Russia when Putin and the Duma passed the idiotic "gay propaganda" bill into law. The fact that you lose respect for the LGBT rights movement just because they don't give Russia a free pass "because they're Russia" shows that you really don't actually care about LGBT rights at all.

Now you are, of course, welcome to criticize, (although, IMHO, bashing would be a more appropriate term,) Russia on all of that stuff. There's relative freedom of speech on NSG, which is, ironically, accessible in Russia. But when you claim that you "discovered" Russia only when said law was passed, and then you throw in stuff from way the fuck before said law was passed, it seems that your "discovery" was about as original as that of Columbus.

Russia has been utterly slammed by Western media, advocacy groups, and politicians. I find myself asking where were these same people in 2008 when the Olympics were in Communist China.

They were probably expressing their concern for human rights violations in the People's Republic of China. I know it's not on the news 24/7, but I'm pretty sure there's been an awful lot of calling out China on its restrictions on free speech and pollution.

Gay Star News has it's bias, I'm not going to deny that, but they check their sources. If you can get past the obvious editorial slant, I'm sure you'll see that their claims hold water.

Probably as in you don't know? All of the condemnations of Russia has run nearly 24/7, while things like Chinese Bar Tenders being ordered to not serve Blacks in 2008 barely got reported.

Indeed, and people criticized China too.
People can criticize Russia in this instance whilst still condemning China. That the outrage may not be as loud isn't reason to condemn criticism of Russia, but to work to make China's criticism-worthy actions get more international recognition.
