I'm telling you: we need to be careful with that idea. It could backfire on us. I really feel we should give in a bit -- on smaller issues only -- and then say "look how f'ed up their ideas were" when they go splat.

You have a point.

Both sides have done the fearmongering, really, to drum up their bases. And blaming it all on the GOP is pretty much standard for the left. Nothing new there.
Dems blame it on the GOP because its the GOP's fault, and how else is america supposed to realize that? We blame them because we care.

Yeah, I'm hoping this election will show how inefficient and out of touch with america the GOP is, which will pave the way for Dems to take the house and senate back, as well as retain the presidency, in 2016.

By the way, what the fuck is going on with Virginia? Has Fairfax County been counted yet?

Virginia is fully counted, and will likely go to a recount.

Warner got what he needed in Fairfax, but massively underperformed in Loudoun and Prince William.

speaking of recounts, will the florida gubernatorial election be recounted or have a runoff?

Is exactly what I'm saying. Hold firm (up to and including filibustering obstructionism) on a few big issues: Any attempt to roll back Roe v. Wade (e.g. a nationwide personhood bill), any attempt to completely repeal ACA, a nationwide marriage equality ban, and impeachment. Give in a bit on other things -- including immigration. Then let the backlash begin. For one thing, they'll lose what portion of the Latino vote they still have for generations (after Cuban-Americans over 60 pass on).

Virginia decided it was tired of Florida always getting all the attention during election season so it went out, got rip-roaring drunk, and stumbled to its decision through the alcohol-induced haze.

And yes, Fairfax has (finally) been counted. 54.5-43.2 in favor of Warner seems to be the tally.

Thanks for the update. I didn't know it was likely to go to recount. I still think Warner might squeak by.

Name ONE major nation at the time the United States was founded in which women COULD vote. Go ahead. I'll wait.

Oh, and guess what? Women and non-landowners have been able to vote for a long time now. And there aren't any more slaves either. At least not IN AMERICA.

The genius of the Founding Fathers was that they created a system of government that included a provision--the amendment process--for correcting all those terrible, horrible, awful, miserable, wicked, evil problems you are oh, so concerned about. It's common knowledge. Start with the Constitution.

Maybe that's why America-haters and other ultra-extreme-left wingers have such contempt for the Founding Fathers.

I'm with you there.

One thing we (fortunately) do not have to fear from a GOP Senate, however, is an ACA repeal. They don't have the 2/3 supermajority required to override an executive veto which the President will surely exercise if such an attempt is made. Besides, the appeal of destroying the ACA (which has already insured 8 million people) is slowly but surely waning.

If even Mitch McConnell is lukewarm on an ACA repeal, it likely won't consume any serious portion of the GOP's agenda for the next two years. And if it does, they're even stupider than I initially thought.

As Republicans have always done, they'll merely work to prevent federal increases.

This was just an inarticulate apology for some of America's many original sins. We profit from recognizing the ills of our past, even those of the Founding Fathers.

Sweeping our litany of sins under the rug of history and blasting with vitriol those who disagree with you is contrary to progress.

I'm not too sure about that.
