Now, if it was being abandoned, why did Lincoln send more supplies? Also, the Gettysburg Campaign was the only true invasion of the North by regular forces. Maryland was (and is) considered part of the Greater South. And it would have seceded too, if Lincoln didn't imprison part of its legislature and enforce martial law.
