The NationStates General Peace Prize Committee,
having taken into account the results of the proceedings, presents

Malala Yousafzai

with the Fourth Edition of the NationStates General Peace Prize - Year 2013.

The Prize is awarded her for contributing to the rights of women and girls in education in Pakistan and for her pro-peace message, like how she talked about never committing an act of violence as that would put her on the same level as the Taliban. She is an advocate for women's rights and access to education in a region where even the most basic rights of women are violently repressed, Malala has endured attacks on her own life while tirelessly raising awareness of the issue of access to education for women. She has powerfully stood up to the Taliban and their violent campaign against the dignity of women. Malala's peaceful yet strong message of a better world where all women are free to receive an education without fear has been an incredible inspiration to girls and women around the world who have been unjustly denied access to the education they deserve.

Just like last year, it's time for the NSG PEACE PRIZE!
Every one of us will be able to nominate a single RL individual, or a single RL organization, which deserves to be honoured for the extraordinary contribution given to the cause of human rights and/or peace. Please explain summarily what the contribution is.
Also inanimated objects are eligible, see rules below.
The present and fourth edition of the prize will be considered as the 2013 edition, even if the proceedings and the proclamation will be completed in 2014.


An apology
The Committee hopes you will be so kind to understand that other pressing issues have kept it from keeping up with the traditional schedule. The Committee will try to start the proceedings for the Fifth Edition in October 2014.
The Committee wishes also to thank Regnum Dominae for reminding it of the schedule, thus letting know that the Committee's work is appreciated and awaited by someone.

ABOUT THE NOMINATIONS PHASE:

• The nominations phase is now CLOSED.
• Every single nomination will have to be supported by at least 5 NSGers to pass to the next stage - poll between the 10 most supported nominations. ...if less than 10 candidates will have reached 5 nominations, I'll try to include in the final poll also those who got 4, or eventually 3, nominations only.
• REAL LIFE individuals, REAL LIFE organizations. No NS Nations, groups of NS Nations, or otherwise fictional nominees.
• PEOPLE must be ALIVE at the moment of the nomination. ORGANIZATIONS must be ACTIVE at the moment of the nomination.
• INANIMATED OBJECTS accepted also, provided they are single, physical objects still existing at the moment of the nomination. As a guideline - it should be something eligible as UNESCO World Heritage (material or immaterial).
• ALWAYS provide a good explanation of the contribute your nominee has given.

• International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (organisations , multinational)
  These organisations have worked tirelessly, along with others, to assist the civilians of Syria, who have for the last 2 and a half years been caught in the crossfire of a brutal sectarian conflict. While politicians bicker over how to respond, the Red Cross/Red Crescent are on the ground providing food, water, medical supplies and shelter to thousands, if not millions of Syrian civilians. These organisations have arguably done more to help the innocent people of Syria more than any other. They have also done the same for places such as Central African Republic and South Sudan. These organisations' work is truly honourable.

• Pope Francis alias Jorge Mario Bergoglio (individual, Argentina/Vatican City)
  Francis’ election as Pope has brought his lifelong good work to an international audience. His rejection of many luxuries offered to him has set an example for humility and self-sacrifice to a materialist modern world, and his efforts, unparalleled among world leaders, to embrace ordinary people – in particular poor or disabled people often ignored or shunned by society – has reminded us of the virtues of compassion and common decency. Francis’ strong emphasis on charity has brought it to the forefront of both the Catholic Church and society in general, and he has been a leading voice for peace and dialogue across the world. He has also worked against the careerist, haughty, prejudiced, and indifferent elements in the Church at the root of its recent failures. Essentially, Pope Francis has been a new, powerful voice worldwide, simply inspiring us all to be better people.

• Human Rights Activists in Russia (organisation, Russia)
  Activists in Russia of various smaller groups, particularly related to the causes of free speech, women's rights, and LGBT rights, have recently surged in their activity in response to several violations of rights at the hands of the current Russian government. Despite sometimes limited resources, these activists have protested in civil disobedience even at the risk of being in prison indefinitely. These activists have already started to yield results as the Russian government has felt the need to free some political prisoners for diplomatic reasons.

• Hassan Rouhani (individual, Iran)
  Rouhani has showed through his words and actions he wants to fight extremism. In a fake election, where the ayatollah picked the candidates, the reform-minded one won. He also helped navigate the nuclear deal, and accepted a phone call from the US president, which is leaps and bounds better than his predecessor.

• Denis Mukwege (individual, DR Congo)
  who has treated victims of gang rape (used as a military move to demoralize the civilian populace) and is working against this particular strategy. He has had attempts on his life and still works for these victims.

• United Nations (organisation, multinational)
  This large organisation has been working in South Sudan to help keep people safe in the wake of the rebellious situation that has arisen out of a suspected coup attempt. The concern of the UN is keeping people safe and has recently decided that to do this properly more peacekeepers are needed, which will eventually bring the number in South Sudan up to 12,500. Their work essentially involves assisting the tens of thousands of people who seek shelter in UN compounds, but they also try to reduce violence (but think this isn't so possible).

• Vladimir Vladimirovič Putin (individual, Russia)
  Despite the fact that he's some quasi dictator whose party basically controls the assortment of yes-men that comprise the Duma, I nominate Putin not because of his domestic policies but because of his (and his government's) policies towards the conflict in Syria, in particular forcing the US to back down on a series of strikes in Syria and proposing the removal and destruction of Syria's chemical weapons, undoubtedly preventing a wider conflict in the Middle East and (hopefully) saving more lives.

• Claudia Paz y Paz (individual, Guatemala)
  Despite threats to her life and safety, she was instrumental in the crackdown on organized crime in one of the most violent countries in the world and was the first Guatemalan Attorney-General to prosecute those who committed war crimes in the near four decade civil war. Has arguably done much more than other more prominent people from a far less visible stand point.

• John Forbes Kerry (individual, United States of America)
  for his negotiations that kept us ^{(the US I guess)} out of actual war. its nice to promote social peace but it is a feat to keep us out of war in Syria when the congressional drumbeats are drowning out reason. it is an amazing feat to get any concession from iran, bring them to the negotiating table and have them agree to suspend their nuclear program for any length of time. and to keep the idiots in the senate from imposing extra sanctions on iran but that may not have been his doing.

• François Gérard Georges Nicolas Hollande (individual, France)
  for trying to bring peace to Mali and Central African Republic. Hollande sent French troops to Mali to fight against islamist extremists who were trying to create an Islamistic state where sharia law would rule. French troops have been fighting together with Malian army and have been mostly successful so far. In Central African Republic France is supporting the fight against Seleka, an alliance of militias.

• the XIV Dalai Lama alias Tenzin Gyatso alias Lhamo Dondrub (individual, Tibet/India)
  HH has worked endlessly for the continued peace between the TGE (Tibetan Government in Exile) and the PRC's government, wishing for the best for his people via a nonviolent way. He has not advocated for a violent confrontation, and has discouraged the use of violence amongst Tibetan rioters within Lhasa and other Tibetan cities. Instead, HH has taught us that a peaceful solution will triumph over the enemies, and has advocated equality for people of all religions, races, sexes, and creeds.

• the Gezi youth (organisation, Turkey)
  It all started with the government attempting to destroy a symbolic park and replace it with a mall and brutally attacking peaceful activists who were protesting the plan with tear gases and water cannons, which sparked a nationwide uprising that can also be considered an outburst of a 10 years of accumulated anger against the AKP government based on its increasing authoritarianism and conservative pressures especially upon at least half of the population which pursues a modern secular life style (such as curbs on alcohol, deterring of kissing in public) as well as undermining of the basic founding principles of the Republic. • 2013 Protestors in Turkey, Brazil, Egypt, and Ukraine (organisation, multinational)
  Tireless struggle against corruption, authoritarianism, dictatorship and for democracy and Human Rights in their countries, even in the face of imprisonment, injury, and even death. Their painful struggles should be honored as one of the greatest sacrifices of 2013 for Human Rights with the NSG Peace Prize. Dictatorship is very difficult and painful to fight, yet these people fought (and some still fight) against the corruption, brutality, and authoritarianism either emerging in their country or them attempting to remove it. Their struggles should never forgotten, so that is why I, United Provinces of Atlantica, nominate them for the 2013 NSG Peace Prize.

Also inanimate carbon rods have been used throughout 2013 to protect the world from devastation, the unite all peoples within our nation, and to extend our reach to the stars above. Quite literally with extremely long carbon rods. Also because when you do the safety dance, you need a maypole, and a maypole is one of the many jobs that are filled by the inanimate carbon rod. Inanimate carbon rods also have been proven to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of lung cancer. Inanimate carbon rods do not believe Carthage must be destroyed, but rather renovated and given a shopping mall with an IMAX theatre and PF Chang's. And you know Inanimate Carbon Rods are all kind and intelligent people, because they hate the Tampa Bay Rowdies and New York Jets.

While politicians bicker over how to respond, the ICRC is on the ground providing food, water, medical supplies and shelter to thousands, if not millions of Syrian civilians. This organisation has arguably done more to help the innocent people of Syria more than any other. They have also done the same for places such as Central African Republic and South Sudan. This organisation's work is truly honourable.
