I think American cultural influence might not necessarily be because of the wealth of America, but might be attributed to other factors (namely both the highly dynamic nature of the US/UK music scene and the sheer quantity of culture that America produces yearly).

That's true, gross economic power, which is behind music these days, is distinct from this sort of prestige-driven adoption.

In the case of goods and services not selling, the expenses need to be cut either through wages or firing employees. Those who end up unemployed have no steady source for money anymore and either become poor or stay poor, depending on their background how long have they been on the job. There is also the possibility of the state letting the businesses decide who to employ when it is not based on merits but unchangeable attributes of ones own biology, such as gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Thus, those who are poor and discriminated against by the employer will not even have a chance to stop being poor and benefit the company and therefore, will stay poor if they have been poor before applying for that job.
