In a civilized culture, there's respect towards all people because they are people.
Homosexuality isn't a mental illness, it's a sexuality, hence the name, and sexualities have nothing to do with gender identity. And having a non-standard gender identity is not mental illness either.
Yes, we should stop allowing people to live their lives when they're not hurting anyone and instead allow hateful bigots to lock up, harass, abuse, and even murder people whose lifestyles they don't like because "it's their culture".
