A logical move in the face of recent sabre-rattling between China and Japan. Should be interesting to see how the rest of Asia takes it though, pretty sure they aren't keen on Japan either

Um... correct me if I am wrong... but isn't Japan breaking a treaty here? Like the thing they signed after they unconditionally surrendered in WW2? That they wouldn't have a standing army and that the US would more or less be their military (or at least that is why I remember from it)

I mean granted we are sticking out hands up and more or less going 'Ain't our problem, bro', and this China thing seems to be escalating, but I am sure that Japans shouldn't have a military TO beef up

They are allowed to have a defense force.

I wish they'd buy from Britain, really help our industry get going again. In all seriousness, sure, why the hell not? Better them than China in my opinion. They really need to be able to show they can defend their territory and not rely on the US.

Good for them. I was starting to get worried about how japan would fare in the event of a new korean war, which is becoming more and more possible due to the north's constant saber-rattling.

Japan for the win.
Though that's a short shopping list, and one that had already been established... two more destroyers isn't huge, and they were already going to buy all that other stuff. This is hardly news.

You seem to be under the impression that the PLAN is even remotely a threat for the JMSDF, even without Seventh Fleet USN backing them up. I wish to dissuade you of this notion.

Meh; it was never socialist in the first place, nor does it even want to look to its people (wanted to bitch about this extra military expenditure having an effect on the civilians).

Good. This means if we go to a war with China or North Korea, then they will be our strongest ally in the region.

Japan. Calm the fuck down.

China, stop scaring the shit out of everyone, jeebus.

Korea? Go nuts. Just don't argue with Japan. Go to your special corner.

Even though they outspent china in Military spending China could still easily defeat japan. For two reasons
1. China has nuclear weapons
2. the size of the Chinese army is enormous and could probably just win through numbers alone.

Then again anything could happen.

You fail to recognize that Japan is a group of island chains. In order to effectively execute a military invasion of the Japanese Home Islands, you would need absolute naval superiority, where even in 2013, Japan has China swamped... even if China did manage to land PLA forces in Honshuu, it would be a logistics nightmare, Japan's natural resources are too ineffective to sustain a massive invasion army, and China's only way to ferry equipment and supplies over could be harassed to shit by the Japanese.

Paratroopers can't do an entire war you know ;)

North Korea is not an issue. Even the PRC isn't too too willing to support them as of late.

Politicians in East Asia are a disgrace with their childish antics over a couple of rocks in the sea and being complete asshats when it concerns former historical ties. Japan's nationalist and right wing politicians should keep their mouths closed. As well as China's military buffs. They are acting like children. Grown men. Children.

The greatest issue here is that in Japan, most of the political parties are all right-wing nationalists. The only active leftist party is really the Communist Party of Japan (who are surprisingly social democrat, not Marxist), and they're pretty much marginalized by the sheer number of right-wingers.

I'm okay-ish with thir economic policies. But they (the old guard and right wing nationalists) need to shut up, apologize, and calm down. The PRC is not capable of a naval invasion, let alone a land invasion of Vietnam in the late 70s (major ass handing there). They are not a real threat. And warmongerers in the West are no better than the infantile group that governs Japan.

Asia needs cooperation and more dignified politicians. This talk about national pride and honor is all pure bullshit and is bogging East Asia in paranoia of the neighboring country.

Also, The Japanese Left is a joke, no offense.

Edit: I love the countries. Korea, China, and Japan. I love them. I just (deeply) hate their governments.

I think Korea deserves the extra rocks; if it's going to be better recognised internationally, people need to be able to point it out on a map or globe easily.

Why do you support this childish madness?

Korea has significant recognition. They are world players in economy, pop-culture, and the technological world. These rocks are meaningless to what really matters, or should matter, for their nation and their people.
