Saint Nicholas did none of the things usually attributed to the modern, North American myth of Santa Claus. The two characters are only associated because of name. Artistic liberty regarding his outer appearance is not a crime - if it were, you would be just as up in arms about the fact that he lives in the North Pole and climbs down chimneys.

As for the issue of ''Jesus should be white'' I completely support it alongside much of the religious fundementalist base but for completely opposite reasons.

I think this should hasten the downfall of Christianity as a relevant force in the modern age...

There is nothing more obvious than Jesus' physical appearance as an exclusively white man to underline a fundamental truth about the history and nature of the religion he stands for. It has always been a white man's religion; it has always been a religion of imperialism and eurocentrism.

If it weren't for European colonialism and imperialism, Christianity would never have lasted so long.

A white Jesus Christ should continue to remind at least a whole bunch of people of this.

The closest depictions we have of him are period-corresponding Byzantine mosaics, which clearly portray him as having light skin. I've seen a few firsthand.

Those are either pictures of aliens or really faded mosaics. Neither is an accurate representation of Saint Nicholas.

My god... your right! simply pointing out that some depictions of Jesus are wrong will bring down all of Christianity... why has no one thought of this before?!
