Anyway, happy birthday Finland! It's been 96 years since we got out of the Russian bear's grip, and that bear never got us back no matter how hard it tried! It's kind of interesting that the Party at the Castle isn't organized in Helsinki this year, but instead here in my hometown of Tampere. It's gonna be interesting to see how it'll go.

Eventhough the Finnish Nation itself is old as the spruce and pinewood forests and lakes of our beatiful land, as a political entity we are still young. We only gained statehood in 1809 under the Tsar, and independence even later.
On 6th December 1917 Finland gained it's Independence from the Russian Empire. This Independence was again confirmed in 1918, 1939-1940 and 1941-1944, and thanks to the sacrifices of the Veterans, Lottas and the Homefront we can today celebrate Finland's 96th Independence Day.(Image)
Some Music of Choice:
The National Anthem
Finlandia
The Jäger March
The Finnish Cavalry's March
Pori´s Soldiers March
The Sillanpää March Song
In the Snows of North is our Fatherland
Long have we endured Cold and Hunger
Under the North Star

Personally not too much into the whole patriotism flare, but I do have plans for the evening - me and my friend get together to cook, eat, play games and have the presidential ball on in tv, to watch the outfits of people as they shake hands with the presidential couple. Too bad we're back to a boring male president - I always liked Halonen's outfits.
