Guys, Santa Claus is a fake being made up to make sure children behave. Seriously, didn't you even bother to ask your parents about whether they put things under the tree or in the stocking at Christmas when you got older? And I thought that the flat-earth society liked to deny obvious evidence.

Well yeah. The spirit of something like Christmas, the sense of getting together with family, exchanging gifts, and seasonal happiness, that could certainly be called Santa.

No, no, the big red man with the suit that goes around with the Reindeer. I mean, I do think that there actually was a Saint Nicholas, but the current incarnation of Santa Claus? It's wonderful for children, but as an adult it's something you should acknowledge as just that: for children.

I met Bishop Nikolaos a few times when I was traveling between Antioch and Constantinople in the early 4th century. He did have a reputation for miracles but then, all you had to do to acquire such a reputation in those days was be reasonably good at sleight of hand. Nikolaos was good at that and he was very good at sneaking little gifts to people on the sly. A little man, he'd had his nose broken in his twenties in some sort of fracas arising out of one of the last persecutions. He told me that the gift-giving helped people, did him no harm (he'd inherited a fortune from his parents) and pleased God. Hard to argue with that.

I know of the historic Saint Nikolaos, but really? This guy has implied, correct me if I'm wrong here, that Santa is a god, rather than a servant of God.
