People like that infuriate me. "I don't like what you do, so please do it somewhere where I won't see it or have to think about it."
Seriously, grow the fuck up. I'm not into girls, but I don't complain when I see a lesbian couple. Are people really so God damn immature as to want to deny people rights just because they don't like that group?

Unfortunately, yeah. People think they have some sort of moral obligation to oppose same sex marriage (but the real reason is actually "ew". All the other pseudo-legitimate arguments only exist to hide that fact).

No, we just kill everyone who disagrees with us, which is far more efficient than letting other people have an opinion.

And you know what the worst part is? The hypocrisy. Female homosexuality is generally thought of as 'hot' and lesbians don't face that much discrimination. Male homosexuality, on the other hand, is thought of as 'gross' and 'wrong', and male homosexuals(like me) face tons of discrimination. One gender being gay is okay, but not the other, according to their logic. Hell, in most Islamic countries, male homosexuality is punishable by death, while female homosexuality is legal.

That's because every man's fantasy is to have a threesome. Get with them times! It's not "not legalizing same-sex marriages" it's about "let's not give any rights to those penis-wielding bastards"

Or so, I think they think like that.

Yeah, double standards are ridiculous.

If two "normal" looking girls hold hands, people think they're just best friends or sisters. If two "normal" looking guys hold hands, "ew gays".

We really, really shouldn't be using Brazil as an example. Whilst, yes, same sex marriage is legal the country has a huge problem with anti-LGBT violence.

A homophobic murder occurs once every 2 to 3 days, with a death of over 2,700 in the period 1980 to 2009. 65% of LGBTs in Brazil have been the victim of a hate crime.

Only less than 3000 in 30 years? You do realize that about 50000 people are registered by police (an oten sick, reactionary, anti-human rights and corrupt police) to have been murdered each year, right?

Brazil is both fairly tolerant and progressive for a third world middle income country, and fairly violent for anything Neolithic.

I guess we shouldn't be using Brazil as an example for crime safety either.

Mmm. Brazil is a country seemingly at war with itself over LGBT rights. 77% are in favour of the creation of specific offences relating to anti-LGBT violence, but there's still this huge death toll and amount of violence.

Yep. Our parliament passed the anti-discrimination bill, but the Evangelical Senators killed it for the 3rd or 4th time.

Try to make a pride parade in Africa or at least 4/5 of Asia, and being open about it with your local social circle...

Cultural evaluations tend to rate it in the top 10% of least sexist Latin American countries, and in the 2010s we often rank first (yeah, above Chile and Argentina, something even I don't believe a lot).

Dumbfuck people don't need many especial reasons to murder someone, and certainty they will hardly get caught and prosecuted for too long. But the feeling of sexual freedom to European-like levels in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo is not usual for the third world. Hell, it's better than most of Eastern Europe.

They don't, but when X person is homossexual and this fact influences Y to kill that person, we call it a hate crime. It isn't exactly a sign X's country is tolerant.

Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo =/= Not all of Brazil. Althought they are very important cities in the world and people there may be a little more tolerant, doesn't mean the country itself is a good place to be gay. Hell, even some parts of these cities aren't a good place to be gay.

Also; "Yeah, I realise there are worse places to be gay. Doesn't mean Brazil is good".

What?

What?

It is something present even in Western European countries who have plenty of civil rights for us.

My country is one of the most progressive in this regard and even though we are not banned by sexual orientation, once-in-a-lifetime homosexual coital action or being indirectly gay by having sex with a bisexual man, we still have to [pretend (it's a face value thing here)] not fuck with some other guy for the last 12 months.

As a fluminense who knows a lot of the neighboring culture to my state too (Espírito Santo got the worst statistics when it comes to domestic violence) and who has to admit how our paulista and sulista brethren are a lot more progressed and civilized in this regard, I know how this might be shocking.

Again, this might be biased in favor of powerful urban centres, as probably the majority of these polls, and not register enough poor people who tend to be confined to the environments not hostile to them in such urbes.

Hmm. This article says Brazil is the least sexist country in Latin America. That's a good thing, but Latin America isn't really an example regarding gender equality.

Being the least sexist country in Latin America is like being the country with the least AIDS cases in sub-Saharan Africa. We're better than our neighbors, but we're still pretty fucked.

It doesn't indicate the country is progressive on international standars, only in regional ones.

The gay marriage loophole (it wasn't actually equality law, it was just a change of procedures that allow people to marry with much less bureaucracy, but it still depends on finding a favorable office) would be soundly rejected if it was put to popular vote.

You talk like it's normal that a gay person has to hide their orientation around other people. What do they hide from, if this is such a progressive country? Think about it. For many gay people, and disproportionately poor gay people, it's a matter of life and death. When a politician says on national television that he would kill his own son if he was gay, he's echoing untold millions of parents around the country. When that abhorrent scumbag Marco Feliciano (may no worm get indigestion eating his rotting corpse) says he wants to "cure" gay people, he's just repeating what's being preached about in the pews. When football supporters actively hostilize homosexuals among them, you bet they're not doing that only when dressed up in team colors.

Oh, you can point out to so-and-so who's beloved and in television, but for every rich gay or trans that is respected, dozens more (usually poor) are hurt in silence all the time.

Brazil is far from being a progressive haven, and here the urban areas manage to be even more dangerously backward. We like to think of ourselves as different from our neighbors, but we suffer from the same machismo problem as other Latin American countries. It damages not only homosexuals, but also women, trans people and whoever doesn't conform to our fucked up gender binaries.

Importance of context.

Also, Bolsonaro meant domestic violence rather than murder. (He should've been prosecuted for inciting hatred nonetheless.)

This you cited will only go away when Christianity goes away and a more comprehensive and sensitive understanding of human sexuality, sex and gender comes. But this will depend on education, media and people growing a thick skin against all of our fucked up institutions. It will never happen without communism. Actual one, rather than those PSOL fuckers who sell themselves while teachers are striking and don't know shit, not even the existence of anarcho-capitalism or the danger that institutions such as those financed by George Soros present here.
