The thing I notice is that for women responding to men, both black and white women trend to their own colour, Latino and Asian's also trend to white.

Men trend to Asian, aside from Asian's who trend to Latino.

Offset against that is black women are entirely trended against.. there's another conversation area in that around 26% of black males clicking on Asian, and also clicking the least on black women at 16%. It might be more of a comment on men not wanting perceived strong characters.

In my view, the %'s are all so low that this graph is not half as troubling as the article suggests but, still, what does NSG think?

A majority of white women prefer white partners, okay. It doesn't equate to white women being psychologically more disposed to white men, or there being any psychologically wired racial preference in anyone, really.

I mean, I don't know what the sample size is, but I'm guess it's fairly large? In any event, I'm skeptical.

We really need to know more about the participants in this facebook app. It's not out of the question that the Asian women participating were smoking hot, while the black men and women partipating had faces like a hatful of assholes.

If you want to do research like this, you need to pick a representative sample of judges, and a representative sample of specimens. EDIT: I'll add that even some "academic" studies fail at this, because their samples are drawn primarily from undergrads.

About the only conclusion I can draw from it is that male users of the app are much more likely to hit anything that looks female.

I suspect it's as good as any, a random pool of people who are expressing preferences - if I was to set up a study I think I'd consider this a success - there are others that measure brain waves etc, but while this might not be set up as scientific it reasonably works.

The main issue is on location, is this a global sample or only popular in, say, the US.

I'm not surprised. If you grow up without coming into contact with different races, you may feel somewhat uncomfortable around them when you're older.

I have anxiety aimed towards anything foreign and unknown to me, which isn't necessarily limited to physical things but also things like the future. I tend to shy away from strangers, but even more so when these strangers are a different race, because I've grown up in a dominantly white area.

Obviously I'm not good at social situations unless I'm accompanied by at least one friend that I know.

I think some people have the same issue, though milder (or perhaps worse) than myself.

No, Neither gender is more prone to be racist. Also graphs don't prove men aren't racist. For example from each male group the lowest response rate was to black women - thus we could hypothesise that all men are racist towards black people. The graph doesn't really prove anything.

Well, barely anyone did that. Only black and white women showed a preference for their own skin colour grouping. And the white women aren't extraordinary in this since the azns and latinos do the same thing. Fawn over white men, I mean.

What I found interesting is that yellow fever is apparently real - everyone wants the azn chicks.

And apparently no-one wants the black chicks.

In some instances, sexual preferences could be - but aren't necessarily - explained by either ethnic relations (Black women -> black men and black women -/-> white men) or economic status (All not-black women -> white men; maybe ALL the men -/-> black women), but a sizable number of response rates are pretty obviously not based on these factors (ALL the men -> azn/ latino women). Personally, I chalk this last one up to asian women apparently coming closest to the global average ideal as far as female physiology is concerned. While the complete failure of black women to attract attention - relative to everyone else - could be chalked up to them being furthest from said average. Hypothetically, obviously.

All of this does of course ignore feedback experiences changing response rates by race over time - something I suspect may have influenced the statistics for black women in particular, since they're really, really out there.
