You can have an organism like herpes living in your body, it doesn't count as a disease until you manifest the symptoms. We have plenty of harmful bacteria living in our bodies, but they are not a major concern until the immune system breaks down and the symptoms manifest, in which case we say "we are sick" or that people have a disease.
