You shouldn't be bothered by simple sayings upon which the country was founded. They're hollow words, gestures of faith that you're not obligated to kneel to or take seriously.

I agree, however, that there is no basis for religion to have anything to do with lawmaking. The basic ideals of the U.S should effectively outlaw banning Gay Marriage, for example. There's no reason to do it save fabricated rumors and religious reasoning. It's the same reason there shouldn't be laws forcing everyone in the country to shut down their businesses on sunday.

No way in hell you will go and not leave together with you Mato Grosso do Sul, the anti-Rio caipira-speaking parts of Minas Gerais, most of Goiás, and a variable part of Mato Grosso (if most of Mato Grosso, most of Rondônia as well). But in the depth, even though I don't sympathize with their independence, I do with that of São Paulo and everything related/dependent/affectioned to it. Our cultures are rival in many senses, so are our ambitions, this creates a lot of conflict and attriction.

But we can't have a country that is Rio de Janeiro plus Central Asian HDI basket cases in the side that remains. :/

We own 52% of Brazil's economy, yet we are robbed mercilessly by this so-called federal government and are extremely underepresented, although most of Brazil lives here. Also, migration from other parts of Brazil is a huge problem (and don't you even get me started on the Bolivians, Paraguayans, Africans, etc) to my state, and this is creating economic problems, so we should secede to set our own immigration rules.

If we were a real federation like the United States or Canada, I bet many of these problems would be, at very least, decreased, even Mexico is more of a federation than us. Sill, independence is the ultimate goal.
