I think I have debated with you before, but let me say it again: A totalitarian state invites corruption. When you thrust anyone into absolute power, they will misuse it. And if they don't, then their heirs will. I mean, Octavian was a pretty decent fellow, and so was Tiberius, but Caligula, Claudius and Nero were the absolute scum of the earth. Well, maybe not Claudius, but Nero and Caligula were. You can't have a totally fair, long-lasting reign of benevolent totalitarian rulers.

Don't confuse totalitarianism and absolutism. It is possible to have a libertarian absolute monarchy, or even a totalitarian democracy in theory.

At no point waiting sitting in the job center did I ever think this country would be better if it was governed by technocrats - your talking about changing the fundamental nature of the UK for the benefit of 6% of the population, and that's just pretending that unemployment is our main social problem.

Totalitarian democracies exist in actuality. North Korea is an example.
