I'm saying theoretically, a democracy can be totalitarian. It doesn't concern me how democratic a democracy is, as the only defining characteristic for a democracy is to have elected representatives. I am not defending North Korea. I only point out, it really is a democracy, and that democracy can be a dictatorship. It's not a mutually exclusive concept. It's quite the opposite, because a sham democracy justifies the dictatorship.

That's a fair and free democracy. Not a "true democracy". A "true democracy" is merely one which meets the mechanical requirements for it.

It's how a constitutional monarchy like Canada is actually a monarchy despite having no involvement from the Queen. It's the technical details which make a system what it is. It's more helpful to realize democracy can be a justification for totalitarianism, which I have explained.

But that help little, when the government continue to cut in founds to the municipalities, forcing the rural areas to close down schools and hospitals, while building expensive opera houses, high teck schools etcetera in Oslo. While Western Norway contribiutes with around 80 percent of the economy, we only get around 20 percent back. It's a load of bullshit, but is the idea associated with it really all that bad? life needs more localization and localized diversity. one should be able to walk, and easy five or six miles, from one village to the next, and find as much difference in cultural values and everything else, as if they had gone half way around the planet. and i don't mean that by homoginizing the planet, i mean just the opposite.

now people have said they fear a world federal system. they have this idea that unity brings uniformity. well that's just exactly bassackwards too.
you can't have unity, without a diversity to unite. its the idea of national soverignty, that imposes uniformity on a countryside, and the whole point of having a world federal system, or one of them anyway, is to stop it from doing so, by abolishing borders as being bariers and allowing and encouraging free movement.

that question my soon become entirely moot however, with the collapse of food supplies and the cascading of epidemics resulting from the combination of too many people driving too many cars and using electricity, too much of which, is being generated by burning coal, all of which resulting in a very painful way for human populations to diminish to such and extent, that survival of the remaining few, at a very local level, becomes an over riding concern.

now of course there are several ways of avoiding that scenario too, so either way, we avoid it or we don't. either way, there comes a time, when people realize how dumb some of the things we are doing, some of the priorities that are dear to us, really are.

and that we have more sensible ways of doing things, and that we are perfectly capable of doing so, and that the illusion that any but a random lucky very very few gain anything by refusing to, is just that.

I can understand why people want the first part but why is everyone so intent on the second part of that? It's the northern Irish not the UK that want them to remain separate.
