I remember you, but I've only recently returned myself so I don't know if you've missed much.

I'm in a long distance relationship right now, and we've mutually decided that after she comes home at Christmas (there are advantages to working at a university) we're breaking it off. She's going to be in Texas for the foreseeable future, poor girl, and I'm moving back to France for a few years in the near future.

How go things? I heard a vague rumour that you had ... a job of some kind, or some similar "real life" thing, and that was part of the reason you'd abandoned us.
(Also, not even the presence of a NS group shall convince me to get facebook. I shall resist the heathen tide to my dying breath!)

Yes and no. She's got a good job in Texas and I won't be back for several years so that sorta decided it for us, and since we both knew about the other's goals and such before we got into this we already knew how it was going to end. She and I have been a thing before, and we broke it off when she left Michigan for Pennsylvania (and I left Michigan for France) so it's not really uncharted territory.

It has come to my attention that I forgot I was messaging Colodia when I was nude and drunk, rather than you.

I will message you nude and drunk, should you like. After all, our relationship is one of manners, and my manners would be poor if I depraved you of such a basic need.

OH, wow.

Pure Metal! Talk about a blast from the past!

Even seeing you posting has brought a big smile to my face, you were always the most laid back, coolest, poster on NSG. It's been so long since I last read anything from you! (Come back! :) )

How's Glitz?

There's so many people from back when that should come back.

Edit: Also, Potarius, don't think I don't remember chatting to you on MSN :p You not only were awesome to chat to, but you brought me Zen Arcade. Amazing. Stay! Post! Lots!

SECOND EDIT: Also, I've just realised this is the relationships thread. I broke up with my boyfriend yesterday. Apparently "I love you" only means "I love you until I find someone I like more, then your're gone". Nice of him. Fan. Tas. Tic. I have to put a whole huge load of trust in any guy to even think about establishing a relationship with them, so the betrayal of trust kills me.

Interesting choice of misspellings. <.<

And yes, Colodia doesn't come on NS anymore; while his presence is sorely missed, his absence is entirely understandable, since -- in the words of another old-timer who came back and, upon seeing NSG, left again -- this place sucks now.

(Also, while "messaging Czardas" would not have been my activity of choice when in such an inebriated state, I suppose everyone has their preferences. I guess if you feel like doing so, there's not much I can do to stop you. :P)

Bottle wrote:My partner and I were "friends with benefits" for a year before we started dating.

I don't believe in love at first sight, but we were more or less friends at first sight. We met one night during a group outing, and by dinner the next day we had people asking us if we'd gone to high school together...it was surreal how quickly we clicked. Turns out we also had a lot of sexual chemistry, and we were fucking within a couple weeks. But I was in an (open) relationship with somebody else, and he was just coming out of a 3-year relationship that ended badly, so neither of us wanted to date each other. We stopped sleeping together for a while when he got a new girlfriend, and then again later when I started seeing a new guy, because neither of us wanted to do something that would hurt the feelings of those other partners.

A lot of our friends didn't really get our relationship. We had lots of people ask why we weren't dating, and that always seemed like a weird question to me. To me, you don't start dating somebody just because you like fucking them. Dating is a different sort of commitment, and I can really like somebody and enjoy having sex with them but still not want to date them...I guess that's not terribly normal?

I hear you on the "no love at first sight" thing. There's lust at first sight, friends at first sight, all that stuff...love takes quite a bit more. At least for me. It's rare, but there have defiantly been a few people that I met and instantly just...worked...with.
I agree with the dating stance as well. I'm chill with being great friends with someone and sleeping together. To be in an official "we're dating" relationship, however, takes something...different? I don't know what, exactly, it is...but it's more than just "we get along great, we're great friends, and we have great sex"

Well...I'm used to that sort of thing happening.

We went out for about 18 months, and basically lived together (at uni, anyway) for the last 9 or so. It's very gutting.

I suppose it gives me the perfect excuse to get drunk and mope about in my pyjamas, while clenching random stuffed toys for comfort.

For the next few months.

Writing my dissertation will be fun; I only happen to do the same subject as him (and, thus, have to spend most of my working week on the same floor of the library as him (and the floors aren't very big, as Yootopia may testify)), but also have the same supervisor. Fantastic.

TG me your address and give me half an hour to download and install MSN? I haven't used it in ages! I might still have you on it if you use the same one as back in the day, but send it me anyway, just in case. A chat would be good. :)

I'm in a relationship.

She's a very nice girl. Fresh-eyed, innocent. But I don't love her. And I just can't bring myself to end it. I know that the longer we stay together, the more it's going to hurt her when it finally ends. But I just can't do it.

That's rough. I consider myself quite fortunate in that when I break up with someone it's usually shortly before one of us moves away and even if they stay in the area I've never had to be around them, especially not like that.

Sounds like the stereotypical relationship for the most part.

People tend to stay together out of convinience or percieved obligation, people rarely 'love' they just assume they should or try to. Emotions in a sexual/emotional relationship with a possible partner often get clouded which is why you end up in such a situation.

Too much emphasis is put on relationships and marriage or what ever other asshattery is related. What ever happened to just living life as you wanted? I don't want a counter-part who i have to concider. May be selfish but better than trying to be with someone because of social/cultural obligations or peer pressure.

Deep emotional scars rarely fade, and they're not something you can just avoid looking at, they creep up on you when you least expect it.

I'm studying the same subject as both my ex and my current girlfriend. The major problem is not that I bump into the ex a lot (which i'm fine with) but that said ex is making current girlfriends life a living nightmare. There's no reason for her to do so but that doesn't seem to be stopping her.

There should be a way to make ex-es magically disappear when they cause this much trouble *eyes gun*
