Of course not. Wether it's jail time, a heavy fine, or something legally humane and not barbaric. Having suicide be a punishment for something as trivial as an assignment is archaic, the teacher should feel bad and be punished.

I'd have him put to death humanely if I didn't think telling (non-suicidal) people to jump out of buildings just on your say-so for not doing school assignment adequately was such a great idea. If they do it, it belongs in Darwin awards.

Why do you think people having to be punished to such extreme lengths for something as trival as homework is good? There are so many factors in one's life that if they cannot get a large assignment done, punishing them severly is silly and over reactive.
