Pork Barrel

Postby The Republic of Pantalleria » Fri Nov 01, 2013 12:53 am

Despite the fact that the Philippines is now one of Asia's fastest growing economies known for its Churches, Islands (We even have a children's Island apparently) and people. Our nation is in the grips of a new issue... The Pork Barrel Scam.
Now this has been going on for months, but now it's gotten to the point that people can't even tell apart what the Pork Barrel is and what the DAP is... The Philippine public sentiment right now is this, but as the previous link shows even the Presidential Social Fund is in trouble, which is by the way used in emergencies, such as: This and this
Now NSers, what do you think?

Philippines is starting to become Brazil, good.

Expect right-wingers raining from all over the place trying to make "anti-corruption" a cause just as they are "anti-taxes" in countries with less corruption, while more important subjects like health, education and social equality are forgotten in the next years. Until your middle class and youth, tired of all this, try to pull some next Arab Spring, they suffer police brutality, and you start to see in the media who is in favor and who is against the people.

Good luck!

So the Philippines is a corruption infested country where the few exploit the many for personal gain and insane wealth? Colour me shocked.

Just be glad your country isn't in a state of near perpetual anarchy where the government can't even remember who is Prime Minister.

Doesn't the Philippines have other problems besides rampant corruption, like horrific levels of gun violence and the like?

Philippines: all the worst sides of Italy, plus the worst sides of the US, and we'll throw in also some religious and political terrorism as a bonus!

Now I understand why so many Filipinos want to immigrate here...

At least that part of the world has attractive Hispanic/Latin folk. The Philippines just has people shooting each other (and politicians) with guns they made themselves.

I didn't imply it was.

I implied that the Filipinos are closer to getting a greater political consciousness that might be the start of the end their long-term corruption problems, but at the same time it might be a destructive force. And the people will have to be consistent and strong in their opposition to bad government actions.

But Brazil is corrupt :palm:

1. we are starting to effectively fight against that, because now we finally have more conscience as a group in voting times

2. talking just about corruption is bad

3. Brazil isn't even that absurdly corrupt, we just got a lot of embezzlement and overbilling but these can be solved with relatively simple solutions such as more transparency, a less monstrous bureaucracy and less freedom at government use of private companies and NGOs (btw, the reason why I am already familiar with issues similar to the one the Filipinos discovered by these days)

Compared to the French, English, Dutch, German, Italian and Russian ones, I find the Iberian exploration colonization preferable.

Even though the Dutch should've stayed on Brazil for more time. :P
