True, France never had much victories, but Napoleon was special. He won and fought more battles than Alexander the Great, Fredrick the Great, Caesar and Hannibal combined.

well like you said, it's all debatable....
The US doesn't consist of more than one nation like the UK does,
The US doesn't have one supreme ruler.
But on the other hand......
The US is the 3rd largest nation on earth.
Totally debatable

Russia would not have made nuclear weapons or anything nuclear if the US didn't make them first, Stalin would have found a reason to kill all of the scientists.

Even closer, he was born on August 15, 1769, while the Republic of Corsica fell in May earlier that same year.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 500 years!

While not a 'great empire' in the territorial sense, Venice controlled the European economy for a long time, and lasted more than twice that long.

We also gave the world some of its greatest music, art and literature, a myriad of inventions, and the idea that anyone can succeed, despite birth. And where we were once behind we are now progressive, being one of the few nations in the world that can proclaim a legalization of same-sex marriage in many areas, and civil unions virtually everywhere. We still lead in freedom of speech and have a government that, relative to the rest of the world, is respectful of privacy.

And we have the power to do anything, because we possess the greatest economy that can be imagined, and a people that love this nation more than its soul, and is finally looking toward the future.

His father was born in Italy, his mother was born in Corsica. He had an unusual complexion and spoke with an accent that stayed with him until the early 1800's. He was brought-up hating the French, and wrote papers in school promoting the liberation of Corsica.

If you think he is "French", what do you mean by "French"? Culturally he sure the hell was not, and in France he initially had limited military career options as officer, because he was not considered French.

Arguably it survived into the 1400s. Certainly, there is a continuous political and legal (if not cultural) state until 1453.
