Only with DNA evidence is this considerable. In other words, the offender must have raped the child. Kids can be coached, parents can make untrue accusations, and if you tell a kid something long enough, they'll believe it. Further, young kids can be molested and name the wrong person. Especially if they're drugged. Also, as others have said, it has the ring of cruel and unusual. Further...in this country we are supposed to be "better" than the scum that commits these crimes. I'm not talking about thieves or addicts or prostitutes. I mean the scum that rapes and murders in cold blood. We don't stoop to their level.

It most certainly does not prevent them from raping. It merely prevents them from using their own genitals to do it. They can instead use objects, a victims genitals against another victim, or force the victim to abuse themselves.

Of course not. There will always be things that apply to one group of people and not to another simply due to nature. Women can't grow beards, and men can't give birth. If one man gets castration for a crime, another gets 25 years, and one woman gets 20 years, it's not discrimination, it's simply the punishment the court decided fit them best.

So I ask again, would you be ok with differing sentences based upon skin color? Because the issue here is not that some people get different sentences. I understand that that is a common occurrence. The issue is that people would receive inequal sentences based upon their sex.

Then you misunderstand my point. Issuing a harsher sentence based on ethnicity is just as appalling as issuing a harsher sentence biased on gender. My point is that castration should be an option, not a requirement. I'm not saying both a man and woman who commit similar crimes receive (for example)20 years, but the man is castrated, rather, I propose that the man receive (again, for example)5 with castration, or 20 without, purely at the discretion of the courts. Just like some people charged with drunk and disorderly can be ordered to attend AA as opposed to receiving a long prison sentence.

It's not a matter of equality, both are being punished more or less equally, rather, it's simply another option for the courts, should they deem it necessary.

I quite agree. Castration of either kind may be part of a effective management of molesting urges. Ie, in some cases, not others, and obviously most effectively with the co-operation of the molestor. If the state government wants to encourage that in cases where it might help and would protect children from future molestation, protect offenders from returning to jail, and of course save the state the cost of trying and imprisoning them again ... then it should subsidize or offer FOR FREE the service. Subject to psychiatric advice that it will help in that case.

Clearly that isn't Hurst's thinking. He'd enforce it AND BILL THE OFFENDER for it.
