Because it's illegal--which is the whole point!

The government shouldn't be making ownership of such systems illegal, because it makes achieving parity impossible!

Because, you just know how the government wants people to have the power to violently overthrow them at the slightest agitation.

Doesn't matter; it's not the government's decision to make.

Who works in arms factories?
Citizens
Who serves in the military?
Citizens

If a tyrannical leader was to take power you would see the sides drawn pretty quickly with generals, soldiers, arms factories and the such all choosing their allegiances very carefully. The populace resisting an oppressive administration is not out of the question, even in this day and age.

as for the gun control debate... GUN CONTROL LAWS DON'T WORK. PERIOD.
It's the law abiding citizens these laws hurt, not the criminals.

Yeah, and just how effective do you think a hunting riffle is going to be against an Abrams tank?

Very. A tank has this huge vulnerable spot called the "fuel truck". Even before the Iraqis really got into huge mines, they figured this out, and were playing merry hell with US supply convoys just with sissy civvie weapons.

Extra large clips for fully automatic weapons with teflon ammo. Hand grenades for sale at schoolbook supply stores. Missile launchers as prizes in iron claw machines at the bars. Then everything will be allllllllright!

This is the problem with people who have never used a gun.

They make fun of people who have hard-ons for guns?

Not everyone that owns a firearm has a "hard-on for guns".

obviously criminals will get weapons regardless of gun control laws, so you either let everybody arm to the teeth (like switzerland, low crime rates), or you let absolutely nobody arm and arm the government to the teeth (like say... north korea, low crime rates)

You realize that is a trap of course - countering it just counts you among the people who do. Why bother countering it if you are a normal gun owner? None.

Also, a side note, forum design sucks ass.

Would it not be the mark of a confident government that allowed it citizens the power to overthrow them at will?
And an even better mark on society that it had the power to overthrow the government but did not unless absolutely necessary?

You're wrong. There's an extremely high crime rate in NK. The government commits the crimes.

precisely, the civilians have been 'knocked out of the box' as they say in baseball.

i wouldnt mind my government having a monopoly on crime if it meant my doors didnt need locks and my children could run around freely, if all governments commit "crimes" and already have a monopoly on laws then why not advance that to its logical conclusion?

Teflon coated ammo does nothing besides reduce barrel wear...

Telfon ammo?

Ze teflon, it does nothing!

Telfon ammo is a joke used by people like the brady campaign that make shit up about guns to scare people that know next to nothing about them.

You'd trade freedom for "safety"? Safety in a gulag?

Read some Solzhenitsyn.

I have a "hard-on for guns"? I own ONE, and have not shot it since last fall. I haven't even picked it up since I cleaned it and put it in the safe. And I countered it because Sapphista's post was directed towards all firearms owners. Your defense of that post made it seem that you were inferring that ALL gun owners had "hard-ons for guns".

I thought it did originally, but its kinda grown on me, fits the theme...

If we could just get a Multi Quote and maybe a Quick Reply function, we'd be all set...

As a side note...

I'm 18 and have yet to buy my first gun.

Which one should I get? (Reasonable, please.)

I have three separate upper receivers for an AR...well, one in my person two on order. Two Sigs, and a cheapo 1911 of dubious make. On and off I'll have a .22 or two or three, depending on how much free cash I do or do not have. I want another Sig, and seeing as that I have three uppers...I might want to buy a lower or two. Need to get a shotgun, the Mossies are good price right now, and I found a Remington 870 with an M4 style stock and pistol grip for $350 this weekend. Also could use a good bolt gun, I wanna go to Boomershoot.

Oddly enough, I'm just now thinking about joining the NRA.

So I guess that kinda shows where I stand on the issue.
