Speaking for myself, I read it. I just dismissed it because the retired politician in question has no intimate knowledge of the family, the child or the circumstances, is not a trained psychologist and, quite frankly, has as much authority on the matter as the drunk I passed in the street on the way to work this morning.

The child's parents feel that puberty blockers, which are completely reversible, is a good course of action until the child is old enough to make a decision (out of curiosity, at what age did you choose your gender, Coccygia?). These parents know their child better than I do, than you do, than a politician does. I have no reason to doubt their actions.

b) "it" in this case sounds to me like the "it's a girl" used when you first discover the sex of your child, and so I don't think that is actually a dehumanizing use of the word.

Is that what's being argued though? Personally I'm of the opinion that no seven year old, trans or not, has a sufficient understanding of sexuality and gender required to make such a decision. The capacity for rational decision making does not exist in young children, precisely why we have legal loopholes preventing them from being charged with a crime and why we consider their consent for many things as void.

Considering the blockers stop working after a few months, I find the 'too young.....they don't know what they are doing to their body...think of the children" argument to be quite inapplicable to this case, and therefore see no reason why anyone should say that this shouldn't be allowed to go ahead.
